Major disaster today, moved the TB to his new field and he's decided he wont be on his own, even for a day so now the race is on to get a companion pony. (Was going to get one anyway, but not till november) so, what do you think of these ponies? (A friend just sent me an email with the links)

Any other ideas where I can look ?

Tried the blue cross website, but I can't find any companions in there Rolleston branch. HAPPA wont rehome without a stable (I do have a 14 ft x 20 ft stable in case of emergency but this isnt suitable)

Am based in Lancashire if that helps.

Thanks :)

I second not getting a youngster, I made that mistake and they run me blooming ragged.

A companion should be an easy keeper, youngsters (IME) are rarely so!! :)

Haffy looks nice and chilled :)

I thought that about the Haffy too tbh, He is the one Im interested in the most. Just a bit concerned about always being lame in one leg, but other than that he sounds lush. :)

Firstly what is your horse like with other horses? I would not be looking at those 2 babies unless he was gentle but able to teach them manners.

The Haflinger, well tbh shame on the owner just getting rid! Anyway could be good for you because older and will know its manners. The mare, well does your horse mix with mares? My lad didn't used to but will with Fany because she is an extremely well socialised horse who gets on with everyone on our yard. You will need to find a horse that is fairly easy going but is willing to be left alone in a field when you take your lad out. Have you checked out project horses? there are some nice one on there.

Hope you find something nice and are able to give it a forever home.
eta - I personally would be looking at companions around the same size as your lad.

My lad is good with others. I let him get to know them over the fence and then he's fine otherwise he gets all silly and excited.

My boy is about 17 hands, so getting something the same size that can live out pretty much 24/7 isnt easy.

I forgot about penny farm, will have a look there.

Have rang the haffy owner and left a message. :)

My only reservation about the Haffy would be whether his 'injury' could pose problems in the future incurring hefty vet bills.......a risk we take with any equine of course but taking on something with a known problem would make me think more than twice :)

I'd avoid the youngsters like the plague ;)

I would look at the section C.

My companion horse is an ex-racer and she lives out all year happily. This could be an option for you.

As others have said, beware taking on a horse with medical problems. If you really like the Haffy, it would be wise to speak to the owner's Vet before you agree to having him.

Give the Blue Cross a ring. They don't have all the ponies on the website and quite often have a waiting list of ponies needingto be re-homed. The one I got wasn't on the website, but happened to come in a few days before I rang.

Ah I'll ring the blue cross thanks, they were my first port of call but I only checked their website, thanks :)

I'd look at the section C, you could always break her and she seems fit and healthy. I'd steer clear of any lame horse, it might be fine now but over the years if it gets lamer you could spend a fortune on it..

The section A's.. personally I wouldn't bother unless you have kids that would 'grow into them'

Hope you find something suitable :)

^^ditto^^

The Section C looks like it could do a job for you as well as be a companion.
