Hey everyone,

Im just wondering what you all think of this pony:
http://www.horsemart.co.uk/advert/6_yrs_6_mths_12_0_hh_appaloosa_other_kent/87361

I am currently on the search for a pony for my two nieces. (Jessica 7 - Grace 3)
They both come up and ride Gypsy, but where Gypsys 13:3-14hh shes a bit big for them and a bit strong. They are both still on lead rein, and Jessica has been in the show ring with Gypsy aswell and done really well. But I want Jessica to go on and have lessons on something more her size and more suited to her. Grace comes up and sits on Gypsy and she loves it, holds onto the saddle and everything but at the moment just a bit young to start having lessons etc. Jessica also has lessons at a riding school aswell, private lessons. But where I am, sounds crazy but it will be cheaper, and better for the girls to have there own pony. That sounds mad I know .. but where Gypsys kept, Jessicas half an hour private lesson is the same amount of money that I pay for full grass livery for a week. £30.

The only thing with this pony is that it has only just been lightly backed. If anyone knows of anything else that would be great to here about.

In the south east area.

xx

P.s I have also just found this pony too: http://www.horsemart.co.uk/advert/5_yrs_10_mths_11_1_hh_blue_roan_welsh_sec_a_kent/87557

I wouldn't buy a pony that had only been lightly backed for young children... second one looks nice, but depending how big the 7 year old is she may grow out of it... although the 3 year old could still ride it so may not be a problem... 5 years old isn't very old for a kiddies pony but that said could still be v. sensible :)

I'd go for the second one, seems a safer option than one that has been "lightly backed".
Both look lovely though. Can't hurt to give the owners ac call and see what they say......

That pony looks nice too. I really like the grey up there ^^ but im not sure on how big to get as my 7yo niece is quite tall .. so its got me thinking maybe something more 12hands or something? It would be a matter of us going up there and trying them obv to see height etc.

Thanks guys :D xx

Ditto....young ponies + young novice children = bad combo. Even with adult supervision, pony will be way too small for adult to get on and school on a regular basis.

Go for a slightly older one that's a dope on a rope, happy to do anything kind...or I'd say look at loaning an older one for a year or so and then buy a younger 'funner' pony this time next year, as she'll move on and outgrow quite quickly onto a '2nd' pony after riding on a more permenant basis.

*whispers* i have a gorgeous little 13hh coloured pony coming up for sale, bombproof easy little chappie. In South West area PM me if you like

Have you thought about a loan pony, would have thought you would be able to get more of a schoolmaster that way, as the good ponies are often not sold on, especially if they are a bit older and have taught a family of children, owners are naturally more sentemental of a good pony and like them to carry on having a fun life, but are loath to sell them. :)

I have thought about a loan pony, but where I have Gypsy on full loan, I want something for them that they can do more with etc. I know it sounds silly but without the loan ponies owners being judgementle etc .. I know that can sound quite horrible, its just from experience of my ponies owners and old loan ponies etc.

So I just wanted to buy something. Especially if the owners wanted the pony back aswell and my nieces were glued to the pony they would be devestated lol.

Thanks everyone for the advice xx
