I had a horse on loan (PSG dressage horse) that was never the soundest but I managed him with special shoes, bute and supplements.
He is also nappy and spooky.
The horse was then on loan to another person then out of the blue the owner took the horse back and swapped unseen (by the dealer)to a dealer. The dealer was then annoyed because the horse is not sound enough to pass a vetting so he can't be sold on. This then all got a bit nasty and went to court( this has been on going for a year).
The original owner won the case and is getting the horse back but no longer wants him so has offered him to me in return for the cost of the transport. I have not seen the horse since the day it left and it hasn;t been ridden since.
I agreed but she wants me to transfer the money into her account before the horse leaves to come to us. We are not willing to do this for a horse unseen. Surely we can just pay the transporters when he arrives?

Am I being unreasonable?

I dont think your being unreasonable at all, you have the right to see how he is and what he is like now. Dont feel pressurized into paying it, if the owner wont budge. I've had a saying thrown around in my house afew times "Never buy something you cant see"

hope this helps!

I guess it boils down to do you want the horse or don't you? What difference would it make if he is seen or unseen if you have already agreed to have him back?

Sorry if I've misunderstood this somehow, don't mean to sound harsh in any way. Just trying to understand the situation.

She doesn't sound like a particularly savoury character

Personally I would back out the agreement and have nothing further to do with her or the horse

but as you know them both I guess that is your discretion?!

If you trust her and want to do what is best for the horse (whatever state he is now in) then it shouldn't be a problem, however if you don't trust her then be VERY careful and make sure you get your 'buying for the cost of the transport' agreement down in writing!

Can you ask her to send you a quick video of the horse trotting in the field so you can at least see how he's moving, before you commit yourself?
