To give you some background:

He is four years old, totally unhandled and entire. He has been out in a field since birth. He had been jumping paddock fences (five foot) and his owner decided that he take his jumping talent elsewhere and offered him to my uncle... so he is currently grazing on the farm. I am travelling to the farm in December, I have only seen him once (when I took these rather unskilled photographs) and wanted to get your opinions on him.

I could not get any sort of conformation shot, he was not cooperative and is very nervous around people but the photos do give you an idea of his 'type."

Out of interest, I'd love some guesses on his breeding (it's not something common :))
I'd also like to know what you think of him.

Dutch is actually an interesting guess!

Yes, I do know his breeding but it's not something you'd see in the UK so I'm interested to see what people would equate him to.

Very handsome lad! Looks a big boy too. As for breed, he has a small white patch on his tummy and those white socks and face, so maybe Clydesdale crossed with something lighter? I see you're in South Africa so a local SA breed perhaps ... Boerperd? Whatever he is, good luck with him. He's lovely.

I'd agree with this ^^^^

Nice type of horse, but I don't think he has enough bone or feather for an Ardennes.

Some type of draught horse crossed with something finer?? (Hedging my bets!!)

You are all far too expert, especially greylegs! He is a Cape Boerperd x Clydesdale!

I also wondered about his escape tactics (had my suspicions that he'd gone through fences rather than over them) but apparently he's a lot more chunky now than he was at three... Bodes well, doesn't it? ;-)

He will mainly hack, do some dressage and, if he gets any more elephantine, he may end up in front of a cart :-D
