depends how naughty they are!
we have electric fencing upto chest height, but they still jump out. one day there were 3 horses all in different paddocks to what they were meant to be in!
and also if you are cutting of a section of field as they will push through anything to get to the grass, but generally chest height and knee height.. unless they are houdinis, then you may have a problem!!
I have a few low spots in the pasture. Nothing below chest level though so I am sure I will be fine. I have only had one horse ever jump out of that pasture and he was a very tall, very silly, very young gelding.
I figured it was ok but was just curious what was considered best. Unfortunatley the low spot is by the road so it makes me nervous. I may just pop a couple of taller posts in that spot and make it a bit taller just to ease my fears.

There is only one I am worried about....she also happens to be very hard to catch. She is small (just under 14HH) but I have found her on the other side of a 5ft fence once with no room to have had a running start!
Never did figure out how she got over that! It was heavy duty cattle panels too so no way to have gone through or under
under 15hh i would go for pony posts with the wire on top strand and middle strand for anything bigger go for the horse post with three strands of wire!
