this is lex.
i brought him in december as an unbroken 5 yr old.
just put a little quick time vid on so i could ask you lovely people what you thought of him???
please remember he has only been in work a month and only learnt canter a few days ago!!!!
lovely, hes going nice seems hes been in work only a mth?(since this dec, just gone??).Was he broken last yr and turned away??
Canters better (well calmer)than my nutty 12 yr old!!
Ur arena is perfect with lots of things to see around, perfect 4 teaching them to get on with things, having no high fence around is a fab idea i think, they cling 2 the fence so much, then it all goes wrong when u do a test on grass(well, thats my prob)
Hows he bred? u selling him on or aiming to compete yourself?
He looks lovely and already going quite nicely. How big is he? The only thing I noticed is that he is often tilting his head.(maybe just the video!) There are lots of possible reasons (and may be nothing to do with his mouth!)so keep an eye on it and maybe get a good instructor to watch/ advise. He may be happier in a different bit. It may be nothing to worry about and it sorts itself out in time. (It doesnt look really bad if you know what I mean!!) Also when hes lungeing, for me, hes charging round a bit fast and running out through his shoulder. I'd be tempted to long rein him as I find its easier to keep control of the outside shoulder.
Neither of these are meant as major criticism, more observations and something I'd keep an eye on! But he is only just started so lots to like! And he is very pretty!!!
he is to bring on and sell hopefully but will see how he turns out really!
i plan to jump him but feel he may be better suited to event as he has super paces and i would be wasting them!!!
he is a hannoverian bred by fishermans friend (sire)
dozzie - i completly agree with the head tilting, he has had his teeth done and they were really bad so im hoping when he realises they dont hurt anymore he will be ok!!
ive tried long reining him but he completly panics which is really not like him as he is normally very calm. he will lunge with double reins but if i even take a step behind him he bolts. i have tried someone leading him and he nearly killed them!! ( it was only by oh so no harm done!)
i think he may of been started in germany and drilled on the long reins and tied down in the stable as he used to stand with his head tucked in ALL the time in the box. totally unnatural so he now has his water buckets, haylage and feed on the floor so he can be a normal horse and stretch!!
I think he's a fabulous little horse - such nice paces and haven't you got him going nicely forwards, you've done a really good job with him. Looks like he's going to grow a couple of inches yet though
Ok so perhaps you dont want to be long reining him then!!!!
He looks about 15.hh in the video!!! I think its because I have a long computer screen so all the horses are really long with stumpy legs and their owners appear to be really wide, short and have stumpy legs too!!!!!!!
Hence I dont comment on conformation!!!
PS I also think he's a fab little chap! Lovely free movement.(Even if on my screen he is long with stumpy legs!!
Very nice, can i just say how lovely it is to see a young horse being ridden forward into a soft hand and not being messed around with, i had a horse that was imported and had been seriously drilled, he was a bit fussy in his head but soon came right when he realised he wasn't going to get a reaction, just takes time and patience. Good luck with him.
Vicki, what beautiful paces!! As the others have said, looks a little fussy in his head but this will come... he is so laid back! Handsome chap too.... you know, if you dont have time for all of them, i could take him off your hands for a while...
No?
Meh, it was worth a try.
I soooo need to get my arse n gear and come say hello to your ponios.
