I have converted to rubber matting and use shavings or hemcore .Is there a product that I can buy to sprinkle on matting to prevent build up of amonia smell.I take wet patches out every day and her shavings are really fresh and clean.I used to use sterilising fluid on concrete floors to wash out with but figured that it might harm mats.
Can anyone recommend product safe for

Ive been having a google and found something called biofresh its supposed to kill ammonia .You spray it on top of bedding .
Now off to have look at green gloop as well thanks

bog standard antibacterial spray (dettox type) from the supermarket kills the smell and presumably the bacteria too without any damage.

I bought two 2ltr cartons of Green Gloop about 3 years ago, and am still on the first one. It is VERY concentrated. I've only one horse on mats and I sprinkle a small amount of the concentrated Green Gloop over the mats (about 2 capfuls), throw cold water over them and brush the mats with the broom. The smell is wonderful and genuinely neutralises any nasty stable smells. Even when my mare is at her smelliest. I do this about once or twice a week, depending upon the weather, in winter. In summer I do it less, since the horses are out most of the summer.

I'd recommend just buying the one 2ltr bottle. It'll last ages and genuinely works.

Freshbin Powder by Jeyes, it comes is a tin that you shake the powder out of. It's designed for freshening up dustbins but does a treat on a stable floor. It's ideal in the winter or bad drying weather as it freshens up the floor without soaking it.

I personally can't stand the smell of the pine one (smells like public toilets imo!!) But I don't like pine smelling stuff in the house either! Much prefer the original one which has a sort of sherberty smell!
