Have tried peroxide, milton, purple spray & all sorts of thrush product over the years - now swear by Red Horse Field Paste, far more effective than anything else I've ever tried and only need to put it on twice a week. They have really got it cracked.
Frog Oil spray from Hyperdrug! Even my vets and farriers are impressed with the speed it clears thrush up in! Not very expensive but worth its weight in gold in my yard.
Tectin spray, thinkits similar to purple spray but anti bacterial. Vet took off some frog yesterday, farrier may take off more tomorrow. Horse is on box rest and his feet are going soft
Seren was prone to thrush, I would often spray on iodine, 'fresh frog' was good too( think that is what its called), and I would sometimes give a salt water foot bath
After battling horrific thrush for about 3 years (horse had sheared heels with a very deep central sulcus) and trying every single one of the products named on this thread (vet and farrier were absolutely defeated by it too), I tried a product called NT Dry. It really is amazing stuff - my horse finally has a whole foot again and is much more comfortable. Can't recommend highly enough, and no, I am nothing at all to do with the company.
I think the problem with most of the other products/methods mentioned is that they clean infection away, but they also leave dry/damaged tissue behind that is more susceptible to the thrush bugs, so using them creates a vicious circle. The red horse paste is a different idea, but it had no effect on my horse at all. I've also tried CleanTrax which worked on 2 of his 3 affected feet, but the last was incredibly stubborn.
The NT Dry is just a light powder that you lightly brush on and leave, it adheres where it needs to and clears the infection without damaging healthy tissue.
Im currently battling thrush in sheared heels with my mare, the best i have found so far is engermycin (sheep foot rot spray) which i got from the vet, i had tried peroxide and iodine to which i was seeing no diffrence,
I'm fighting the damned stuff too - thought I had it under control until the boy went lame on sunday - had the farrier out yesterday, and I'm keeping Shy in now to really let his frog start healing.
In the morning I'm washing his feet with hibiscrub, then drying them, and then applying neat eucalyptus and tea tree oil mixed, from a spray bottle. Have just ordered some Field Paste (contains the same oils !), and off we hopefully go.
My Granada used to swear by neat Clove Oil. Tried it once or twice and it did the job amazingly well. Just put a vew drops into the lid and used a small brush to paint it on. Hey presto, no more Thrush. Works on toothache too!
Probably not the best thing but I use Milton sterilising spray - I figured if you can soak the foot in it as some people recommend then the spray should be ok although quite harsh but at least you can target certain areas. Anyway it's worked a treat. I also red horse products quite good and I think thoroughly cleaning and letting the foot stay clean and dry for a few hours several times a week helps. And stimulation - since being barefoot her frogs have never been better - fatter, neater or stink free!
Athletes foot spray or powder has been used by a couple of people on our yard with good success. I think it is similar to the NT - Dry powder but an awful lot cheaper.
