I really don't want to give my horse a flu jab, my last horse developed a heart murmur after flu, and it ended his days of riding! I cannot prove it, the same way I cannot prove my daughter developing nystagmus and needing a brain scan at 9 weeks old after the initial vaccinations.... anyway...

I am pro vaccination but really only intend to have my horse done for tetanus, I asked Petplan what their definition of vaccinate was for their insurance terms and conditions and they said well if you don't bother with the flu, we will just put an exclusion on any flu related conditions...

so how many of you vaccinate for flu with petplan?

I have flu & tet done for both of mine with petplan. If you don't & you get an exclusion it normally only refers to anything that wouldn't have occurred if you had got it done.

Don't think my insurance company stipulates about any injections but I only have the tetanus done - I don't mix with other horses by going to shows etc so think flu jab unnecessary

I was insured with NFU(it might have changed now) I did have them all done and then just tetanus. I was told that if he went to shows I would have to have them all done(he never went to shows) So just tetanus. But I dont remember being told if its related to flu ie he hasnt had the jab that condition would be excluded, as most flu type jabs only cover some bugs and as the bugs are constantly changing you can bet the one you have been jabbed with is the one they wont get.
