Are you happy with what your livery yard is providing you with regards to services and prices, how much do you pay and what what, would you prefer better quality stables with rubber matting auot drinkers, do you pay extra for turnout and how much AND are there any services you would like but your yard does not provide it?

thanks in advance and as much info as possible as need it for research

Mine is a quiet livery yard where the YO's are none horsey.
They love watching them in the field but thats about as far as it gets.

I pay £15 a week For stable and Grazing/Turnout

we can have 24/7 TO if we want

We buy or own hayledge, shavings though we all used the same guy who delivers for us and has decent prices. And buy our feed from a feed merchant down the road

I have one of the biggest stables as mine is the biggest horse on the yard and his stable is 13x14

there is a block of 4 of a similar size (about 12x13 i think)
though there are another 5 inside the barn as the same as mine and they are only about 10x10 my friends maybe a bit bigger but her 14.2 manages fine in this and it is adequate for her. This would be too small for me but all the other liveries have ponies and most are out 24/7

There are a few things i can fault about my yard is that there is no school/arena. I am currently using my friends on the neighboring yard (privately owned) I used to loan hores from her so she it letting me use it free of charge.

The actual farm itself is a bit run down but i can cope with that.
there is a bit of junk at the top of the field which i hate being there. The field is 15acres and its caused no problems but its still ot safe for there horses..... YO are getting around to it this year. But being none horsey they dont understand the full dangers. Fencing could be improved. It keeps my bigger horse in, but the sec A does wander from field to field

I dont care about rubber matting or auto drinkers.... and i think if the livery wants these they should pay for them thereselves. Unless of course all the yard already has them. but carrying a few buckets of water 10m isnt going to kill me.

As YO's are none horsey they have nothing to do with the yard. so if i want a favour i ask my friend ond vice versa. this works well as we do *favours*(ie no money!) for each other and we all get along well

The yard is only small and there are only 9 horses on. So its quite rare to see anyone up there, so no bitching going on and we are all really friendly
YO's sometimes a bit too friendly and you can be round in their house for 2-3hrs!

ive rambled on enough now so will shut up

I'm on a brill yard.
I pay £35 a week for the stable and grazing, haylage, shavings etc are extra. We have to use the haylage and shavings that are provided. We have full use of arena, woodland ride, xc etc within that £35 a week.
Lessons are extra but if you buy a block of 10 they are cheaper.
Im on basic DIY and any services you need (eg,holding for farrier, exercise, plaiting, anything really!!) you write on a sheet that each horse has and they are billed as extras at the end of every month.
there is very little i would change about the yard, possibly better hacking on roads as there is no loops, you have to turn round, however the roads are really quiet and we can use the woodland ride depending on the weather (its a UK chasers course)
It doesnt have auto drinkers or rubber matting but all the stables are new (monarch), large, light and lots of fresh air circulating.
We also have a kitchen, and a bathroom and an immaculate tackroom.
All i want from a yard is flexibility with services, kind people and most importantly my horse is happy.
The yard im on fulfills this and i know i am very lucky with where i am. There is a massive waiting list for spaces!!

My horses are on a livey yard which is part of a riding school. Cost of livery is dependent on horse size so we pay around £50 a week for one on grass livery and £120 or so for the other on full livery.

Full livery includes everything from grooming, to exercise to tack cleaning daily. Plaiting for a show is extra.

On grass livery I pay £1.50 for him to be brought in or turned out and £12 to stay in. I've been lucky enough to hang on to his stable for use during the day or if I need to keep him in.

Even though it's pricey, I like it there. These are our first horses and I like the support and help we get, not to mention the discount on lessons. There are 2 indoor schools and 4 outdoor schools plus woods to hack in and fields to hoon around.

I will probably move them one day to somewhere cheaper or on DIY once I find a job closer to home and have learnt a lot more - currently doing a horse care course.

The only thing I don't like is how busy it gets over the weekends. There's so much going on and sometimes you just want some quiet time. They run junior holidays throughout the summer so it gets a bit annoying having sprogs running around all the time.

To bring a horse in which includes foot care, brush off, rug change and feed it cost £5, £35.00 per week or £140 a month This includes hosing if necessary.
For just bringing in - no rug or foot care etc is £3.50 per day or £20.00 a week (£75.00 a month)
Attending for vet or farrier costs approx £10
Hay costs: Ablib per week 14.2hh and over = £10 per week or £7.50 for ponies. When they are out in summer hay is charged by its weight.
bedmax is £5.50 per bag
Feed, turn out and rug change is £3.50 or £20.00 a week (
Muck out costs £3.00 per day or £18.00 a week
Wagon parking is £25 a month and Trailer is £12 a month.

I think that covers the basics!!!
Any other questions just ask!!

I like my livery yard, it has 3 schools (one indoor) and great hacking (no roadwork required). My horse is on DIY livery, I pay £50! a week for him, which I think is far too much, especially as I work there (think the YO is taking the p#ss). All hay, feed and bedding is included in that price in fairness, but still it is a lot. Really it is only a part and full livery yard so they don't do DIY usually. Parts and fulls get everything included in their prices too.

Mt livery yard is ok, I have only been there 2mths and George is my first horse, I have him on part livery which means he is turned out and bought in and he is fed for me. The stables are nice loddon boxes in a barn with rubber matting and auto waterers, I pay £200 a month and hay/straw and feed is extra. There is a lovely outdoor school and excellent hacking. The other livery owners are really nice and the YO is nice and approachable. However there are some downsides, the horses don't go out all day and you don't have a choice about this, if you need hay putting in for the evening/night it gets done at about 3pm. Extras we have to pay for:
Putting turnout boots on/off £10 a month
Extra water for soaking hay £5 a month
Parking for trailers £10 a month
Full livery (mucking out and picking out feet) £5 on weekdays, £7 on a Sat or Sun

It's not perfect and I really wish there was more turnout but the amount of land they have is limited.

I pay £30 a week this includes bedding and grazing and use of school, jumps and 300 acres of off road riding. Hay is extra. You can have lessons and use of trailer. TO/BI is £1 either way.
Yard is ok but could do with a few tidy ups!

as a general guide DIY £15-40 per week, part livery £75-100 full livery £85-140 schooling/breaking/comp livery £100+ depending on facilities etc.

Generally i dont think people want world class facilites - just a decent sized arena with good surface/mirrors/jumps, safe and well maintained grazing and lots of helpful, knowledgeable staff!

That is very interesting, I am researching if people do want "world class facilities, if people are prepared to pay for the smaller things or if they just want an "ok" stable, manege with mirrors and discount on training?

Blimey, it's expensive where you lot live! Over the last few years, I've generally paid £15 per week DIY livery, so that's stable and as much turnout as you want, 24 hours is okay, and you buy everything else and do all the work. The most recent livery yard I was at (18 months ago but I know the prices are the same) charges £30 DIY including straw and ad lib haylage (haylage in field too) turnout all year round 24/7 if required, secure tack room, small out door school, in a quiet country area of Dartmoor about 15 minutes drive from Exeter. Yard owner is a pony club instructor and BHSAI, and will do extras as required, don't know the prices though.

I pay £15 a week for each horse until the school is built then it goes up to £20 a week. All I want is for our school to be finished and the fencing in the fields to be done. Our YO keeps saying the jcb will be here to level the school so the membrane and surface can go down but it never happens
