What do you wear and in what order?

Alainax, your high viz is still visible, just. Safety in numbers, that will be me too, it's fun hacking out with others too, mostly. I do need to be visible from the air though, went through the nightmare of being found by paramedics x 2 then air ambulance, I seemed to be waiting an eternity.
I'm thinking a tabard, bastardized to be suitable for over air jacket, some high viz for my hat and hoss too. I think I'm going to be sweating like a pig by the summer, but better be hot than just a head!!!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, it is most helpful.

You can buy hi-viz 'stickers' in long strips. I say 'stickers' as they are not flimsy normal stickers, they are very sturdy and difficult to un-stick! You could buy lots of them to decorate your air jacket with!

I've bought a roll of , high reflective tape, from fleabay, it isn't high viz, but reflective? Had intended wrapping in round my schooling whip, more for naughty cars that may underestimate their closeness to horse!!

HEnmother, I'll have a look at my highviz tommorow. It is a front fastening tabard with fairly weak velcro at the front and velcro sides that are fairly weak. When I've done arial acrobatics in it in the past it has generaly come apart (and thats without the pressure of an airbag!).

I'll find out what make it is and let you know!

Thankyou kindly conniegirl :)

I have a hi viz hat silk - it's not silky, it's a waterproof one and it's big enough to fit straight over my normal silk. I am a district nurse in a rural location so meet riders and cyclists every day - I find hi viz hat covers excellent as the head is so much higher up it means I can see riders very clearly from a good distance, hence why I got one. I also have hi viz gloves as they are very handy for hand signals (of whatever type are needed hehehe!) and the hi viz chaps are good too. I think if you can get hi viz arms by wearing, as others have said, a thin cycling jacket, then you're going to be very bright! Also a sheet on the horse. My cycling magazine did an excellent article on winter cycling last year and they said any pulsating light really catches the eye so you could get the little led flashing bike lights and fashion some sort of fitting for them to go on to garments too!

That's a nice jacket alainax.

Since becoming seriously ill last year I now feel the cold, what I wear for riding now is:
Bra, fleece, BP (new, so from now on) wateproof jacket, hi viz tabard OR hi viz warm jacket rather than jacket/tabard.
Coblet wears hi viz rein sleeves and leg bands minimum.

Moana I'm the same, the spinal cord injury has knackered up my internal heating too, I have a dead leg that is always cold no matter what. I have a few fleece tops, think I'll pop one of those in my layers too.
You know the leg bands, are they different to boots, I've seen some that kind of look like small boots. So, exercise sheet, rein sleeves, leg bands. Great, I don't need an excuse to visit horsey shopping sites :) thankyou.

I think I would wear a long sleeved hi viz jacket under the air bag and then, I have some overchaps that have a panel of hi vis down the outside of each leg, I would wear those :)

Battytwoll, does your high viz hat cover work for a skull cap, I've seen some but they look like they'd be more for hats with fixed peaks. If it'd work on my jockey skull I'll get one, rather than a hat band. Will defo be looking into the cycling jackets. Aldi had some in not long back and I nearly asked mam to get me one. I have a padded high viz gilet from there it's really good but probably no good for wearing under air jacket. So... Bra, thermals , long sleeve t shirt, fleece, Bp, cycling jacket-high viz, then air jacket , tabard-baggy quick release. Medical arm band. High viz gloves, looking into high viz waterproof pants. Then hoss, exercise sheet, boots, high viz rein covers and shiny whip! Phew, gone are the days of riding in a tshirt/vest, no matter whether I'm riding a horse, a donkey at the beach or a brightly coloured carousel horse at the fair! Safety first! Thankyou everyone, knew I could count on you. The yard where Ned is at, hardly anyone wears high viz , so it is very helpful to have you to help.

How about one like this one :

ttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hi-Viz-Fluorescent-Horse-Riding-Tabard-Xl-/321297044232?pt=UK_Horse_Wear_Equipment&hash=item4acecbd308

If the unspeakable happened the air bag would inflate, the velcro would pop and wouldn't interfere with the air bag inflation at all (i would have thought)

Good luck when you get back on! Im sure it will be wonderful:)

Thanks lovescobs, that's great! Velcro high viz tabard it is!! To say I'm excited would be the understatement of the year ;) I know I'm going to cry my eyes out once I get on board. Really really want to jump but just don't know if I dare chance it.

I have thought about doing that, as I would like to know what to expect if/when it did go off. I'm more frightened of forgetting to unhook the damn thing when dismounting and it going off and spooking horse. Meds make me so forgetful I'm going to have to get someone to say to me, unhook, unhook until it becomes lodged in my tiny mind :)

put up a sign to remind you

How big is your horse Henmother? If its not too big, and if you are going to sort of slither off, you will probably find that forgetting to unclip is not a total disaster - I got off my 15.1hh loads of times having forgotten! But agree better safe than sorry and if it is 17hh - no chance! :) x

Hi Henmother, yes the cover is a Shires one designed for a skull cap, I got it on ebay for about £7, it has its own peak and I wear mine with my Charles Owen 4 star jockey skull, the black silk that usually goes on which came with the skull, then I just put the hi viz one over the top, it is large enough to cover the other one so I have two peaks (hehehe!!) but you can't really tell from looking at me. I do look a bit like a lollipop lady but I'm fine with that!! They are much more noticeable than the single hat bands you can buy. The more hi viz the merrier really, I look like I've been nuked with the glow of the readybrek child around me!! Good luck, I bet you can't wait! x
