I've got a showjumping clinic next weekend with event rider Claire Lomas. I've never had a lesson with such an experienced rider and don't want to look silly (my horse is good enough at making me look silly without me turning up looking like unprepared and scruffy!). My question..what do you guys wear, horse and rider, when going for a clinic?

Thanks x

When I first went to one, I made sure I was neat and looked 'matching'... However, now it just has to be whatever breeches are clean

Wear the tack you normally wear. Make sure it is clean and safe. Rider wise clean jods, polished boots and a polo shirt/ rugby shirt/ jumper depending on the weather. So it shouldn't be too different from what you wear day to day.

Have fun at your lesson.

I once hacked to a Jeanette Brakewell clinic as it was at a yard five mins from where my horse was at the time, and so I wore my flourescent tabard as I always do on the road and she laughed at me and made me take it off because she said it was too distracting! Probably not very helpful!

Aside from that I just wore what I would school him in at home, and normal tack/ boots that he would wear for jumping at home.

I wear the same as I would to ride at home, its not a show and "pretty clothes" and a scrubbed pony wont make it go any better!

i'm the scruffiest person i know so will usually make slightly more effort- so i'd try and be vaguely colour co-ordinating (i.e. not pink tshirt and red gillet) and vaguely clean but thats about it. i wouldn't wear beige/white jods or anything that looks overly like show stuff as my trainer friend thinks this is hysterical when people do this....

how about:
navy/black breeches, nice polo and a matching gilet or lightweight jacket. just be aware that you will be working hard and so might get warm so dress accordingly as you don't want to be wasting time taking your coat off or whatever....

As my mare is nearly white, she is bathed, but she is bathed for normal lessons too.

Clean breeches, boots, top, with clean tack and bandages for pony.

It might not make her go better, but it does make it look like I've made the effort, as I expect them to make some effort in teaching me!

Diggerbez I too am quite scruffy, I try not to be and my horse is always turned out immaculately but I sometimes let the side down lol I havn't brought a new pair of jods in good knows how long!! So they are all faded and I just think my competiton breeches would look nicer. But I think I have a nice navy pair somewhere that I'll wear with a polo shirt.

I always like to turn out smartly as I can without going OTT. Clean boots for me and horse, horse brushed and well groomed (no shavings, mud clinging to her). I tend to wear a collared shirt and gilet weather dependent. I wear my show boots and leather gaiters (but not my show gaiters cos they're a pain). My RI often comments on the turn out. She certainly notices if we're not (I wore DMs to a lesson and she slagged me for it - tee hee - so next time I put a mirror polish on my riding boots to blind her with).

I wear navy breeches with quite a tight fitting polo top and maybe a gillet.
Polish my boots and wear my smart hat.

If flatwork horsie wears navy saddle cloth and navy bandages.
