Need some reassurance. Mines going through this gangly skinny ugly stage! I turned him out onto the summer field yesterday so hope that it improves the look of him. He’s so so narrow at the moment, and just looks a mess. I took a picture of him laying down yesterday and it looked AWFUL. What is everybody else’s 2 year olds looking like?
He’s being fed daily, been wormed, been on ad lib hay. I’m really hoping the grass does the trick. I really struggled to keep weight on him during winter. Any other tips will be greatly received! Here he is after a day on lovely long grass.

Don’t know if he looks worse because he’s also cut a cut just above his eye, which looked like an eyebrow!

They do all grow at different rates, but 2 is a notriously ugly age!
I wouldn’t worry about a 2yr old being a little under- it's a lanky adolescent growing phase, you don’t want them well covered and loading the joints too much

2yos going lanky, skinny and a bit ugly is really normal and not a bad thing!

I wish mine had! Mine was just a short fat creature. He has never gone through a proper growth spurt, much to my disappointment. This was him in spring of 2yo year. At 4 he is only a couple of inches bigger.

Very hard to see from a front on shot but he looks fine to me, just as a 2yr old should look. I managed to turn the picture to look at it properly:) Very nice youngster. What is his breeding?

Thank you. I purchased him from Whitehawk Spotted Horses. Sire is a few spot named Klaudius and the dam is a Belgian Warmblood ?

Always found the 18 months to 2 year old stage the worst! My filly is 2 in mid July and she’s actually looking pretty good in comparison to how she looked a month ago. But she always had a very good shoulder and broad, like her mum so she certainly doesn’t look weak but her quarters are about a hand bigger! she is about 75% blood and I do find that makes a difference in terms of how they grow. You also get some who always just look like a horse if you know what I mean, types that you could show in the young horse classes Without much fussing with feeding etc but they’re the exception not the rule. Most go through seriously ugly duckling stage and I believe that’s how it should be really.

Isn't there some saying that you look at a horse at 3 days, 3 months and 3 years and not inbetween?

OP I think he looks lovely, and gawky so much easier than fat.
Thank you. Yes I’d rather him be like this than fat. But I do worry!! Not heard that saying before! I’ll definitely remember that one haha
