What does ‘pecking’ in XC terms mean?

Sorry to be so naïve but what does pecking mean in XC terms. My instructor did explain the other day but still not 100% sure.

If a horse pecks on landing they lose balance on landing and it looks like they are 'pecking' the ground like a chicken as their front legs buckle and their nose gets very close to the ground.

Those times when you think you're headed for the floor on landing - head disappears and they 'kiss the pitch' as my old boss used to say.
