My horse has had a

Weatherbeeta mesh combo
Rhinegold lilac mesh
Amigo bug rug
Rambo flybuster (old green version) and twitches like mad when theyre on- the only one he was comfortable in was the Amigo, but after less than 2 weeks of use the straps are coming away from the rug so thats being returned!

Has anyone elses horses taken a dislike to fly rugs?

I currently have on order a rambo fly buster with buzz blocker and a premier equine one, Im hoping one of these will be to his satisfaction...

Allthough they look good rugs, my friends horse has one- the silver combo one but it rubs very bad even though the fit looks perfect. Also it seems to hold the water loads if it rain and becomes very heavy!

Unless you have a different MT one?

My welsh cob has always suffered with sweet itch and I have always found the Rambo sweet itch hoody fab, but one of the girls on the yard bought a Shires performance maxi-flow fly rug...I loved the idea of the back and neck being waterproof and thought it would help stop midges getting to his mane and tail so I bought one. Wow! is all I can say, does a fab job, he doesn't sweat under it anymore than he did with the sweet itch hoody ad it's really tough. I was so impressed I bought one for each of my other horses.

After trying many different ones ive got one of mine in the rambo sweet itch hoody, even though he dosnt suffer with sweet itch, its fantastic and worth its weight in gold and the other ive got in a premier equine buster rug that goes over the ears very similar design to the rambo, i dont put it over thier ears just fold it over, both brilliant rugs would never buy just a nomal fly rug again

The Rambo Bug Buster (or something like that) is brilliant. wraps right round the belly, very well made, tough mesh fabric that actually prevents flies biting through it (many don't, they just look pretty) and best of all it's impregnated with the insecticide permethrin, guaranteed for 15 washes. Works a treat - worth every penny.

I loved the Rambo sweet itch hoody but it was out of my budget so I bought a Mark Todd Combo and I love it. It has not rubbed at all, fits really well and washes/dries really well. Can't comment on it holding water as I never use fly sheets on wet days.

Rambo Sweet Itch Hoody, absolutely marvellous. no rubbing at all, not a bit of damage to it after a few months of use, mare's mane looks beautifully shiny and tidy, all flattened to 1 side. i won't waste my money on anything cheaper in future!

I've not long had the MT Combo, unfortunately it has rubbed my boy and doesn't fit him very well at all. It's not deep enough either - might try the Premier Equine next. Do they come deep does anyone know?

I have just brought a premier equine one, they only £29.99!!!
Reduced from £62.99.

I haven't tried mine on yet but I'd say go for a smaller size than normal- this is what my friend did and it worked as they're quite roomy. The material is quite sturdy and my friends has lasted well and not rubbed.

have tried loads but rambo sweet itch hoody is the best by far, premier equine do a copy version which is on sale at the moment not sure what they are like but a fraction of the price!
