what do you do to help with your riding and keep supple ? going hard at the gym, yoga, pilates, work out at home to a video? is there a particular exercise you abide by for riding performance , stamina good seat etc ? :)

Sorry *do to keep fit...

Absolutely nothing!!! Walk the dog daily, keep up with household chores and gardening, but nothing else. If I had to make a list of the ten things that life's too short for, going to the gym would be way up there. Totally hate it.

Having said that, I recently went to a yoga class for the first time and loved it, so might take that up at some point if I ever get the time.

Started a pole fitness class this year. Safely can say I've never used so many muscles I realised I've owned for the last 24 years nearly until now!

I did a taster Zumba class when I started uni. Couldn't take it up as the classes clash with a lecture but I have never worked so hard for an hour in my life. It was incredibly hard work but hilarious at the same time! I think the having fun made it seem easier! I can't even begin to imagine how fit you must be after doing that once a week every week!

I used to be right into long distance running , and do marathons. It's trashed my joints and I'm only 34. Now I settle for the odd jog and lots of dog walking

I have been doing yoga regularly for about 5 years...its made so much difference to my riding. I think the main thing is it helps keep the spine supple and I have definitely noticed I don't get such an achy back. It also helps reduce tension in the hips and the shoulders which must be a good thing.

I did a zumba class today...first time in a few years so I will probably feel it tomorrow..loved it though and planning to make it a regular thing.

Aside from yard chores and riding.... Swimming :) 2 x 45 mins a week.

Me and PS both have a hereditary form of arthritis (amongst other problems!), so can't do high impact stuff like running/weights.

Fitness aside, it's very therapeutic.

The Insanity Workout... It is what it says on the tin - insane. But boy do you get results!!

Compliments riding perfectly though as it works a lot on core strength so I have found it's really improved my riding fitness. My ab muscles have never worked so hard but I like it because most of the workouts are only 20 mins (that includes a warm up/cool down) so don't take up too much time but you always feel you've done a good workout. :)

Bootcamp 3 times per week, fitness class on a trampoline once a week, lots of dog walking and pilates, and if I can fit it in I do a Zumba class. I did have a few months off due to injury and boy did my riding suffer, particularly my balance and it had a real impact on my confidence.

Apart from the daily hour out with the dog, I run. Currently training for the first half marathon of the year, on road, before the start of my summer of trail running. Hopefully going to run an offroad marathon in the Cotswolds on Badders weekend, so I better lay off the Pimms on x-country day!!

I do plenty of walking (to get somewhere) occasionally cycle (again, to get somewhere) and get plenty of exersice looking after my ponies and riding. I think I'm plenty fit enough just doing what I have to do and have niether the time, money nor desire to go to a gym or class to exersice for the sake of it.

Yoga and bodybalance, plus boot camp when I can make it, which isn't often these days. I'm just starting bodycombat once a week, but that might not last, as she's snatching studio times here and there, so final time may not suit! Me and other half sometimes go walkies, often towing ponies along!

Um... Switch the TV on and off at the set instead of using the remote?.... Most days....

Haha :D well I joined the gym just over two weeks ago. I was wary of gyms with contracts and all, but this one is no contract, you can opt out anytime, it's a tenner a month and open 24 hours. I do feel better after a workout, not so stressy.

Run round up my own backside mainly!

Um, well seriously I do ride about 4 hours a day, so going to a comp with just one horse is kind of covered.

A few years back when I was doing Int and CCI* eventing I took it all a bit more seriously, and included Pilates, running, cycling and swimming. It did make a difference, mainly in pain management. Right now I just seem too busy, and am not competing to any level.

Pole dancing, aerial circus stuff (silks and hoop), running, weights/kettle bells and stretching. Last year I tried triathlon, this year I'd like to try a half marathon (I'm a rubbish runner so this is a big goal). I adjust the intensity according to what my disc/sciatica will let me do.

Jog, swim, cycle Kickboxing and walking my dog. I got half marathon next weekend, 80 mile bike ride end of march, half iron man in June and a 2.4 mile swim then 70 mile cycle in July. I must be crazy but I still find time to ride my horse and take care of my youngster. :-)

Spinning class x 2 per week followed by swimming
Gym at least once in addition to that. Usually twice and sometimes 3 or 4 times.
If I only gym once I usually swim at least once too.

Walking here and there.

I don't currently have a horse so don't always ride every day. The above routine keeps me fit enough to go a week or two at a time without riding and then be able to do a full day of training, including several riding sessions.

Not as much as I should - I used to go the the gym 3 or 4 times a week.

I'm currently doing the couch to 5k and also canicross with the dog so running 3 to 4 times a week.

Also do a lot of walking with the dog but I don't find this does any thing for my fitness.

Having children on the lead rein is quite good exercise too, particularly when they get braver and want to canter, jump and win a red one in a gymkhana.
