What does it mean to be 'horsey'?

This might sound strange, I have been riding for over 10 years and got my own horse 2 months ago, I love him to pieces and spend a lot of time and money on him, but I wouldn't consider myself to be 'horsey', is that wierd? What is 'horsey' exactly??

have to agree with you there

I walked past so many gorgeous pairs of shoes today........It was depressing!

Not only because I couldn't affordthem but even if I did buy them I would never be able to wear them because I can't afford a social life!

When your horse has a better wardrobe than you do, and your work clothes are screwed up in a carrier bag somewhere on the car floor !!
When you don't chose your vehicle for comfort/looks/gadgets but go for storage capacity instead.

Horsey means mental! I think that 90% of people that are in the horsey set are bloody nuts

Yep! Think that about covers it!

Also think it is when you walk into a horsey persons kitchen & there is a bridle hooked temporarily over the kitchen chair, odd bits of tack here & there, one or more dogs, an assortment of boots by the back door & dog eared copies of H&H & various others like Horse etc. And also the car bears more than a passing resemblance to being in touch with horses, ie; bits of hay, horse feed, spare tack etc etc

Would not have it any other way

Your description rings a lot of bells. Nothing horsey allowed near my new car though - not until at least next week anyway!

I think most sports/hobbies seem eccentric to anybody not involved in it. Not picking on anything but: train spotting, ice skating, stamp collecting ...............................................

Yeah, true. Think with horses though it is more than a hobby or sport. Due to the amount of time you put into it it & the fact your horse is a 'person' to you & riding is a part of 'you' & a part of your life so sort of builds around other parts. (Does that make sense?!)

LOL at the car comment, you know it's gonna happen sooner or later!

Forgot to mention the various Robbies/Rideaway catalogues that seem to have permanent residence on the coffee table/kitchen table...

Totally agree.
I drive a defender and when I took the toll box out the other week was surprised at the amount of hay / straw / shavings residing behind it - needless to say the tollbox went back very quick and i have attempted to forget all about it...

You know you're horsey when, as I believe, quite rightly said, you smell more like a horse than your horse does and when you turn up at work to have a colleague pull a few bits of haylage out of your hair.

When the grass in your garden is 6 foot long but the field 'just wont grow!' or, as said above, when your horses have a much better wardrobe than you do... mine have several outfits and combinations, yet I have one that all of my friends have now seen a million times!

I think I'm horsey, I'm poor, the inside of my car looks like a stable, and I generaly look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards!

[/ QUOTE ] totally agree and you don't realise how bad the car smells until you get in there in good clothes.

You are horsey when you not only TALK horse all day long, but eat, drink and sleep horse too (not literally obviously)
The real meaning of being 'horsey' it to have a connection with horses and knowledge about horses.
