i understand welsh cob and ponys etc are section A,B,C &D and this normally means slidht differences in breeed e.g build. but why is my ISH and certain of his family members marked as section A in passport?
I thought the colours corresponded to whether it was of unknown breeding- white, blue for a half ISH, or green for a fully papered ISH, but I stand to be corrected!
A green Irish passort means that the sire is approved and the dam has a full breeding history with her parents on both sides by approved stallions.
A blue passport means that the sire is in the supplementary book meaning it may not have passed all stages of its approval. That could be due to lack of progeny competing due to its age,it has failed on some small conformation fault or incomplete breeding history. In the end it does not really matter to some as Cavalier Royale was supplementary and covered a lot of mares and was eventually approved a couple of years before his death due to the high level of his progeny competing.
My ID gelding is marked as section A in his green passport. I think it denotes "top" breeding - His sire and dam recieved very high marks in their gradings. He thinks he is a hairy bog monster though!!
