what does this mean?

Just reading an advert, looking for a new horse

and it looks perfect but says "Without strap hence price."

May sound really dumb but, what is strap?

And, on another note entirely just returned from my holidays to see that I was runner up in that oil painting competeition

Are you sure it doesn't say "cribs (or windsucks) without strap"? Ie it crib-bites or windsucks and they use a cribbing collar on him to stop the habit? Cribbers/windsuckers are usually sold at a reduced price.

They will mean that it cribs at tea time without a strap (normally called a collar though)
