Talking about the favourite breeds got me thinking about horse personalities!

Ive never known a horse as cheeky as Lance, for example last weekend he was not impressed at being tied to a fence without any hay, so he tried to LIFT the fence post off...that didnt work, so he satisfied his mischief gene by knocking the pair of scissors off I had left on the other post, then he was happy!

He does these little things all the time, he has me in hysterics, yet he is very loving and he definitely has a sense of humour.

So what do your horses do that make you laugh?

Ross has two itchy patches either side of his withers, and if you scratch them, he sort of bunches up his nose and holds his head on one side and half closes his eyes, he looks so funny!

My horse Jet, moans and groans and grunts. I always warn people that he does it but they never quite get it till he does it.....and then they are totally convinced that he is dying.

Fiddler "lip skips" when he wants attention, he shakes his head up and down with relaxed lips and they makes a smacking sound! occasionally he does it with his tongue hanging out which is hilarious!
grin.gif
He loves to play in the hay soaking bucket and after i worked him he used to submerge half his head plus bridle

to cool himself off!

He also paws the ground when he needs a drink when we're out and about - very clever pony

He's a pony with a huge heart and a personality to match

PMSL, Lance and Beau sound like dirty old men when they roll! They groan so loudly!

my son has a welsh section a pony who is very cheeky I rent a field from the farmer next door the field is seperated by electric fenceing every time I go down to see them (about 2 to 3 times a day) hes always there but the farmer told me that he gets into the other part of the field but when he sees him he climbs inbetween the fenceing its double tape and its on without touching it ive not known about this he always makes sure hes there when I arrive but Im there pretty much the same time most days so hes got it down to a fine art, the little monkey.

April sometimes gets over excited when she has done a jump and does this...

She's like a footballer celebrating a goal and makes me and everyone watching laugh

Aww bless! He is like 'yes yes I did it!'

My pony is so cheeky! He opens his door when he wants his dinner and stands there looking for you. He also gives kisses all the time and bows sometimes. He paws the floor when you bath him and snorts like a pig at new things.
laugh.gif

Our 2 ponies demolished a post and wire fence, one would push the wire down and the other would remove the posts with her teeth!, went out one morning to find 30' of fence in a pile with them both standing on it looking totally innocent!

My horse lifts his feed bowl up after he has eaten and throws it over the stable door. If you put it back in, he drops back over the stable door.

Every morning when i go down to my yard, I get my mares tack and walk to her stable, when she see's me coming along with her tack intow she walks right to the back of her stable as if to say "not to day, i just want to get out to my feild and eat the grass"...LOL
grin.gif

George 'talks' he flops his lower lip up and down so it looks like he's chatting at the yard they call him 'Mr Ed the talking horse', they make up funny voices and converations in time with his lips 'hello Mummy, nice to see you.....no no not the pessoa, please can we go on a hack' and so on!!!

When Mcfly is having a scratch from one of us if you stop he will look at you and then turn his head and point to where he wants it scratching. He doesn't point to where he has just been scratched and most times will point to the other side so I am sure he is trying to tell us lol.
Doug will knock feed buckets over and if you hang anything on his door he will knock it off, rugs, headcollars and anything.
He will also play with his leadrope and twice broke his rope/and or clip on his collar and got off cheeky monkey. I had only left him for a split second to get his feed as well lol. When he did it last year ( not done since luckily) I heard a breathing noise and looked up and he was standing right outside his stable watching me put his feedbucket on the floor ah bless lol x

otto takes a mouthful of food then promptly rinses his mouth out in the water bucket, also dips his hay in his water. meg will stand by while you fill the field water up and after the shetland has had a good old splash and stuck her feet in it meg will tip it all out

everything he does makes me laugh, he just goes round looking for trouble. This morning we put him in the field with less grass as he has a slight belly on him, and he was not impressed. He stuck his head and neck through the gate, lifted the top part off then jumped the bottom part from a stand still, and trotted off into the field with the longer grass.

He learnt how to open gates and untie things, he can get the lid of absolutely anything in seconds, stands in his water bucket, throws his empty bowl out of the stable, pulls his brushing boots and rugs off with his teeth, spends hours staring at his reflection in the window of the car and the house next to the field, rears up to eat the higher leaves on the trees, steals bags of carrots and runs away with them, and also throws himself on the floor and lies there with his legs in the air when one of the mares is looking at him...the list is endless!

They are so funny aren't they?!

Sam does three things that make me smile:

He noisily sucks on his tongue (that he folds up in his mouth) after eating his feed.

He lives out 24x7 right now and comes in for a ride/afternoon feed; you go to put his headcollar on to hose him off or something before he has had his afternoon feed and he heads to the back of the stable pointing his bum at you and glares over his shoulder looking disgusted. I think he thinks he is going to be turned out without having his tea first, which obviously is just NOT ON as far as he is concerned.

Once he has had his feed you simply hold the headcollar out and he enthusiastically shoves his head into it.

He's a VERY laid back horse but also has a terrible temper and can really throw a proper tantrum when he doesn't get his own way- highly annoying but quite amusing at the same time.

Mr D does some very funny things.
He loves to play with sticks and this is something I didn't believe until I saw it for myself... He finds a stick and picks it up, chucks it about in the air, catches and then walks over to his friend and pokes him in the shoulder with it. He then throws the stick up and hopes his friend will catch it (which doesn't happen often) and then gets fed up with him and walks off with it. I've seen him try and pass it to his friend and the pair of them both hold the stick in their mouths and Darcy tries to drag his friend round the field like a pair of dogs!
grin.gif
That tickles me!
He also groans and grunts lots especially when the instructor/my trainer is trying to talk to me and we are stood still doing nothing in a lesson.
The last thing that tickles me is his whinny; he often whinnies no louder than a cat's miaow. I talk louder than he whimpers!
smirk.gif
and sometimes he just whimpers for a split second which is hardly worth the bother or likely to prompt a response from the field!
crazy.gif

Law, I'm so glad you posted that - my horse plays with sticks too! He shows off, runs around after the other horses with them and throws them around. I thought there was something wrong with him! lol! But then, there could just be a screw loose in both their heads!
grin.gif

It's a rare occurrence these days. I tried to video it once but you couldn't see the stick as it was so small so he just looked like he was having a fit!
crazy.gif
I'll have to see if I can find the clips at home
grin.gif

There is another forum member on here who hasn't posted in a long time and we were talking about it and he said one of his was the same except that it used to take very long sticks and try and walk through gateways with it. He said he watched the horse once walk backwards through the gate dragging the branch because it got stuck going through forwards!
grin.gif
That made me feel like darcy was a little more normal!

Gosh, my girl is pretty silly!

She "begs" for treats and attention from everyone by lifting a front leg right up to her stomach, waggling it and looking all coy with her head and neck curled right round so she's looking up at you all doe-eyed! If a little bit of this doesn't work, she tries the other leg! She was even doing this with me in the saddle the other night when I stopped to speak to someone and can do it whilst having her back feet picked out! She has the best balance in the world!!

She also has a really funny little whicker that she gives when she sees me- kinda like a muffled scooter "putt putt"!

She can untie herself (very subtley as well!) if you don't watch her and tie her up carefully!

I've also found her trying to break into an upopened bag of carrots- she couldn't open the pack, so just munched through the plastic and turned them all into mush.

She's so food obsessed that she will put her nose into every bucket looking for food (even all the skip buckets!) and you have to be on the ball to stop her eating things she shouldn't!

Have to say, I love the playing with sticks trick, that's the funniest I've heard yet! I love her little quirks, make me laugh and make up for the bolshy, grumpy moments!
