Please tell me what breed/type & height your equine is & what he/she weighs.

It would also be useful if you say what kind of condition they are in & whether you have an actual scales weight or a tape estimate.

Thank you.

15.2hh tb weighted on a scale last week at 505kg, he is fat! Looks pregnant! Usually he doesn’t keep weight on well over winter but this year he seems to be managing fine, hence why we probably did overfeed, but plan to cut back a bit on hard feed and start exercise

17hh ISH 641kg he is fit and looking in good condition

Funny just weighed this morning.
12.3hh welsh x . Fit, and not fat. Body score 3/5.
Surprised at 420kg on the tape, maybe knock 20kg off that?

Are you sure on that reading? My 14.1 PRE x Welsh is nearly 410kg and pretty fat right now (should be 380 on weighbridge) and my 14.2 Connemara youngster is also around 400kg and also not fit.

The only horse I've known for sure was a17hh, measured not guessed, lightweight warmblood with a high% TB, who was condition score 3/5 and weighed 629kg on the vet's scales. I thought that was surprisingly light for such a big horse.

Other than at the vet, how do you weigh your horses on a weighbridge? I assume you don't take them to a commercial weighbridge and weigh lorry with horse and then get horse off & weigh without?

16.2 mw warmblood. Was 650 on tape and 670 on vets scales. He was fat then and out of work. Now back in work he is in good condition, can feel ribs but not see etc. Vet said he was spot on. He is now 625 on tape so guessing about 650 on scales.

The Appy was 620kg on a weighbridge a few years back at "just feeling ribs" condition. She's 15.1 and part bred draft. Weigh tape last week had her at about 620 but I think she's closer to 650 right now. Vet happy with her condition although she's the type that always has a huge neck.

Dales x at 13h was 400kg on a weighbridge and tape when she went to the vet last winter. She's fat (started eating for England about 6 weeks ago and growing a coat a bear would be proud of so must have known it was heading for a cold one). I'd add another 30kg to her right now but the weather might knock that off.

Baby cob is about 3/5 condition score wise but he's a bum high 14h 4yo. Weigh tape at 400kg and that's probably right ball park. Vet thinks he's fine, just a bit gangly with a hay belly.

Won't let me upload a photo but my 13h native was 400kg on the weighbridge at the vets last year so you might find it's not that far off

Blimey, I stand corrected in that case! Just shows that height is not a good indicator for approximate weight range!

Many feed companies will come to your yard with a weighbridge if there are several people who they can give feed 'advise' to.
Alternatively independent nutritionists also have weighbridges. One near me charges £15 per horse

16.1hh TBxWB - was 555 on weighbridge in October, condition score 5/10 and is holding his weight better than I feared this winter (first winter with me) on minimal feed of chop, fibre nuggets and balancer and ad lib hay. I am very happy with his weight - he just looks "right".

She is a chonk, but the fittestshe's ever been. . That's why I can ride her as an adult.
I was expecting nearer 350kg but nope.

15.1 chunky traditional type pure Connemara was 542 kg on weighbridge but only 510 kg on weight tape in September. I put the difference down to his massive shoulders!
15.1 Connemara XTB weighed the same using both methods 502 kg.

335kg - on a weighbridge. 13 hand mini cob gelding. Probably a 3 now if condition scored. It's the lightest I've ever had him.

We used to weigh the racehorses every week but the machine has been broken for a few weeks.

Most horses came in at 540kg-660kg from their summer holidays. Their race fit weight was about 65-80kg below that. The horses would lose 15-20kg in a day's racing which is purely lost water weight and it usually takes them a couple of days to put it back on.

Welsh D condition score 3/5 and 542kg on weighbridge. We have an egg count person who offers weighbridge too, helps get dosage right if you need to worm!
