Hi,

I am in need of some advice. I have a 1 year old Labrador who has just swapped from Hills Science Large Breed puppy (chicken) to the adult version but the adult version seems to make him poo a lot.

It goes through him very quickly and now he will go quite a few times within an hour of being fed. On 2 occasions since swapping food he hasn't made it through the night and has needed to go. He hasn't done that since he was 8 weeks old.

The adult Hills Science seems very dry, light & airy. As it goes through him so quickly i am not sure if his body is getting what it needs from it. I know Hills has a high soya content so going to try something else.

Can anyone recommend a suitable dry food?

Thanks in advance!

Try Oscars - you will not find it in the shops it is home delivery only. There is a website but they have local franchisees who will call if you would like to let your dog try the food and will be there as advisors in the future. It is about the same price as Hills.

My lab has done well on it for years.

James wellbeloved. My lab is a very good weight, shiny coat and she loves it. About £7 for 2kg which lasts about 1 week is.

I do give her chum in the evening with kibble

I feed mine skinners salmon and rice he does brilliantly on it. If you look in the our dogs thread my lad is on page 4. Everyone comments on the fact he has the most amazing coat ever seen and keeps him an amazing weight. He is 24.9 kilos and has been for 6 months now, fed 350g food per day in 2 meals. A bag lasts about a month and a half.
Its better ingredients than Oscar and half the price.

I feed my gsps acana and orijen. Pricey but they only poop about 2x each a day. And good hard ones. I had anal gland problems with one so this was very important to me :)

We found the only and I am being genuinely honest about this- the only dry food that works for my boy is pets at home fishmongers salmon and potato. He poops twice a day and its always solid and healthy with little smell compared to some dog poops I've smelt in the park etc

Everyone suggests different things. We feed Harringtons and all the dogs look well. The lab does poo a lot but she has a varied diet of harringtons, scraps and dead rabbits, deer poo, layers pellets etc., etc. Her coat is great!
