Evening all!

Just trying to rethink my summer wet weather hacking wardrobe here :) Currently wearing Northface waterproof jacket & trousers tucked into my boots but I think I need a change because:

(a) It's a bit warm for the summer
(b) The whole baggy-waterproof-trousers-tucked-into-boots look is so not a good look

I'm not usually that bothered about what I look like(!) but I got back tonight & made the mistake of heading to the bathroom before stepping out of my clothes - hadn't realised just how shabby I look..!

So I'm wondering if those waterproof breeches are any good..? I've seen some designed for jockeys so assume they're fairly hardwearing but I'm not sure if the world is ready for my backside swathed in so much light-coloured fabric :)

Any ideas or suggestions..?

Thank you - just going to put the kettle on now so can do a few more for you guys...

Waterproof full chaps that go over your jods, and a waterproof jacket will do the trick.

Then u can take them on and off as the rain stops and starts.

Oh and a waterproof rain sheet for your horse too.

I bought my dad Rainlegs a few years back for cycling, they are like thin waterproof chaps that roll up on to a belt round your waist, and only cover the top half of your legs so you don't slide in the saddle - he loves them and I really want a pair for riding as they are so handy.

I stick with the drowned tramp look of waterproof trousers in boots and console myself its rural chic.

Birthday suit. That way you don't have dripping waterproofs to hang up when you get home :p

Did you know that Gore-Tex was originally designed as a medical membrane?

I wear a very light (hi-viz) cycling waterproof and get wet legs. I tend not to ride in very heavy rain so I don't get drenched so I'm not too bothered by damp legs. A friend has the waterproof jods and she says they really do what they say on the tin.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your thoughts. Sounds like we're all sporting a very similar look :)

However, good to know that these waterproof jods seem to work. Might give them a go if I can find some at a decent price. Either that or I'll stick with my current cat-dragged-in look & just get myself a balaclava :D

Have fun out there - it's still raining up here!!

I nearly always wear non-waterproof jods and a sweatshirt - as usually when I go out on a hack the sun is shining and 5 minutes in the heavens open. You'd think I have learned by now! I do always have a complete change of clothes with me though (including knickers!) :o

I bought some Equetech riding tights and they're fantastic for riding in the rain. Because they're a teccy fabric, and will keep you cool as well as warm if needed, they wick away any moisture if you do get wet, and you won't feel cold & clammy like you will with cotton or denim fabrics.

On top, underneath I wear a short-sleeved wick-away cycling top (bought at Lidls, cheap & cheerful); and depending on how heavy the rain is, on the outside either a Luna Rider hi-viz jacket, OR an Equafleece hi-viz "Endurance" fleece (blurb says they'll keep out a shower for at least an hour, uses body heat to repel moisture - yes, it DOES work, I've tried it!! and you stay warm in them too).

I also use a waterproof ride-on saddle cover too, to protect my suede-seat saddle which I'm totally precious over :)

Nothing to do with rain (in which I'm always wearing the wrong thing) but I'm struggling to know what to wear in my house tonight. It's freezing. Considering visiting attic to break out the salopettes. CANNOT turn on heating. It's nearly June FFS. And no coal for fire, sob.
