Ok, post below got me thinking, a girl who is local to me and well known to be a (i wont say it), needs something done, (i have just replied to other thread about this) she was seen the other day riding up the road leading another horse, with no hat on and had a bottle of wkd....

She has 8 horses on a tiny paddock (not even an acre) and they are all skin and bone, all their feet are terrible and in desperate need for a farrier, yet she still takes them to hunter trials and local shows, beating them over a 4 ft course!! All horses are too scared to argue with her, At one show her section D, that looks like a starved race horse!! Lost a front shoe, they are hanging on by threads and as thin as a crisp, so she decided to get a hammer out of her trailer and pull the other front shoe off, she horse actually dared to move so she turned the hammer round and whacked the horse up the guts with it (the two pronged side)!!!!.. At this point i was on my was over the wrap the hammer round her head (in a nice way of course

) but my OH caught up with me first

Her field fencing is chicken wire and barbed wire, theres lots of hole in it, so its then tied with baler twine!! Many a time ive got one of the horses feet out of the fencing as they have been stuck while trying to reach for grass the other side!!

This girl has got a horse that belonged to me too. He was stunning, i have no idea how she ended up with him, but i honestly cried when i saw him!! He is so skinny and depressed, completley run in to the ground. Its so sad. Ive asked to buy him off her but she wont budge. She really is a dissgrace to the horsey world. Myself and atleast 9 other people have reported her to the rspca, but we all know they are as helpful as a chocolate fire guard and refuse to do anything because they have water and their not on their backs with their legs in the air

I get so angry when i see her, these poor horses are all 100% in every way, so genuine and loving, but as ive said before, they are too skinny and scared to put a foot wrong anyway!

Other then steal them and hide them in my back garden (very very tempted) what else can i do?

Report her to Redwings.
RSPCA couldn't give two hoots about horses, redwings are fantastic.
If you google their name you can find their cruelty number on their website.

Contact world horse welfare, much more useful than the rspca. Get others to do it as well, strength in numbers.
While youre at it send her a copy of a good horse care book

And a terrible woman!
Try contacting the local council, take photos for evidence of what these horses are put through.. You might get somewhere then..

Also try ILPH (or whatever they are called now). The RSPCA are useless. My mum reported a horse near her to the RSPCA, it was skin and bone in a tiny bare paddock with no hay/food. The RSPCA visited, said it was fine. The horse died 2 weeks later.

complain to the organisers of the local shows that she was seen hitting her horse with a hammer and have her banned from all local events.she cant treat her horses in that way and still expect to be accepted at local events along side good local horsy peeps. as well as all the above.

I'm not aware that redwings has ever taken on a legal case, which in this case if the owner is unwilling to sign the horses over would be needed, but certainly try them. The WHW? (ILPH) have brought a few cases to court although a few of them have had rspca backing or assistance in getting them to court as the rspca (depending on the area have more connections and contacts for vets and solicitors etc).

You could try your local council trading standards but again (depending on your area) they usually refer domestic animals (including horses) to the rspca.

As bad as this persons housekeeping sounds, it may be that there is no LEGAL case or not enough evidencial proof to bring a case. i.e If the horses have all 5 freedoms etc

I would be interested to know if anyone after reporting a case to the rspca and a case was not brought against the person. Did any other charity or prosecuting body take on the case and were they successful?

Thanks, i will get on to it straight away and keep you all updated!! She doesnt have them jabbed yearly, doesnt worm them and i think 1 out of the 8 has a passport and thats because i got it done when i had him!!

My old horse that she has now: I had him on full loan 2 years ago as the owner was scared of him and couldnt do anything with him, he used to always arch his back and bronc, after i had him for 3 months, had his saddle, back and teeth done, he was a super star (what a supprise!!!) BUT i didnt have an agreement! So along came the owner and took him back, she said he is sellable now, and thats what she did. Complete ***** I couldnt afford what she was asking but this terrible women could!! I was gutted!! Thats the only reason she ended up with him. I would never put one of my horses within 100 foot of this women.

Just want to point out that it is not illegal not to worm or vaccinate, there is no limit on the amount of horses per acre as long as all horses are regarded as in good health. Barbed wire fencing is not illegal even tied up with bits of twine it is not illegal, the only way it could be regarded as illegal is if it extends into the field with bits lying all over causing a high risk of horses getting caught up in it, even then the owner is likely to be given a notice to get it sorted.

Therefore unless there is evidence to support the beating claim, the only illegal act here is the lack of passports which is more an issue for trading standards than rspca.

I'm not supporting this owner in anyway, her practises sound harsh and pitiful BUT in the eyes of the law she maybe doing nothing illegal hence please don't slate the rspca for not taking a case against the owner.
