Hey,

I am in bed Ill so no pony’s for me today but my friend has been keeping me entertained by having a massive rant about other equestrians on social media . Which got me thinking are we all annoyed by the same thing.

My friends rant started because someone posted a fundraiser because they disabled and can’t work but yet has 4 horses they do everyday. They are always posting fundraisers originally they said they rescued them turns out they paid some good money for them . People “donate” to help them . But yet they slag off actually charities not only horse/animal rescues. I know this person and they sent me an abusive message and she basically trolled me because I did a fundraising event for the charity for a Disability I have because apparently people didn’t want to enter there online thing as it was closing the same day as my event ?.

I think mine has to be the needing good home posts where they say they won’t give the animal away for free but need them gone ASAP to a good home . I think this is great but then they put conditions on it . When I was looking for a companion a bit back I had all of it people wanting to know if I owned my house , land and how long we had had it or saying that they will only sell in a bonded pair tell you £500 for one and £2000 for the other because it’s well breed but in its 20’s . Then the one who asked about my household income. One even sent me a questionnaire on hormonal/metabolic conditions in issue in Horse . I was looking for a small companion for my pony with EMS and other things so was chapter and versed in This. The last questions got me how did my horse get its conditions, what would I have done differently leading up to this all sorts. Then the one who wanted me to take full purchase a £800 wardrobe from her for the pony. The contract that came with a pony I was buying. Good good the worlds gone mad. Then they call you a time waster when you say you don’t want to provide your house hold income . Ended up with a great little pony in the end from a friend after he lost his companion.

So for a bit of fun post your social media hates ? yes I am this bored

Ok so today.

someone selling a 25yo TB because they can no longer afford to keep it.
it’s not a small pony which will jump hedges hunting all day and live until hell freezes over.

They are wanting actual money and for it to be sold, not a loan or share etc.

they’ve been trying to get rid for a few months now and unsurprisingly no takers. It’s also not a novice ride as “forward going” so not suitable for someone to sit on and poddle round block.

I know many can’t afford to have multiples on livery or have the space/grazing to retire one and run another - I couldn’t. (which honestly, is what I think their intentions are as they’ve jumped the legs off this one)

It keeps cropping up and it just doesn’t sit right with me this one.

I know they drive you mad with it that what I found when looking for a buddy for my EMS pony thought surly someone would want to find a good home for a pony with health conditions but no one women tried to sell me two minis she wanted £2000 for them they where in there both had metabolic 20s but she had so many stipulations. The questionnaire was also by them . It annoys me to they don’t deserve that in there later years !

It is so upsetting when you see old horses for sale :( I saw a one not long back which was around 20 I think. I can’t remember it perfectly but owner had put something along the lines ‘he’s served me well for the past 15 years but he struggles with the riding school/hacking centre and cutting down numbers’! That’s right she’d had him for around 15 years and wouldn’t retire him there with her at the riding school! He was also up for pennies with all rugs and tack! Luckily lots of people volunteered to take him but the comments were a battlefield!

you would think so! Or at least loan in out if she really needed it gone, as it sounded like a real safe light hack. I assume the riding school or hack centre (I can’t remember exactly what it was but it was a business) must have ran out of money for that situation to occur.

The ones that’s sell the youngster as they have no time to keep two in work even though they have kept it for three years then get rid when it’s ready to back then a week later have another one that’s broken and able to be competed………. I’m always like wait so I thought you didn’t have time for two in work ……….. just tell the truth you didn’t want a youngster ?

You would hope so but I know a few riding schools near me who sell them off in there twenties or if they start getting issue to a novice family for a first horse

Bad riding.

People complaining that they aren't winning or even getting placed in their showing/dressage competitions and slagging off judges no end. Then you see a video of them riding said horse and instantly know exactly why they aren't doing well.

Can no one keep their hands still any more?!? It's all swing them from side to side with their hands down by their knees to "get the horse on the bit". ?‍♀️

There was a grey tb adverta little while ago, think she is a dealer. Saw it again yesterday, has been kicked in field so needs x amount of time on box rest the x amount in small paddock. Total of 6 months before rehab. She is selling for £600 as she hasn't got time.

Omg that’s bad which dealer was is that’s stupid surely they have insurance or would be better off giving it away !

Haha yes but then I have to remember I am a para rider and don’t ride like I used to so in no position to judge others. Although when I get a bit down about how I sit or not being able to control bits of my body . My instructor tells me I ride better than some able bodied ricers which is good to hear . Drives me mad when they don’t get the judges choice is finale !

The best is when people post videos of their ‘pro’ friend riding their horse, and that’s what the pro is doing.

Ok this is really judgy of me but it did annoy me.

wanted!
16hh+ weight carrier for 15 yr old novice. Must be good to box, shoe, hack, school etc. Age 7-10. Loving home with stables and will have sheep for company.

it doesn’t sound all that bad likely other than sheep for company but I know of this girl. She was offered to go help a friend with mucking out and general horse duties as she has no knowledge of horse keeping but only showed up to ride. Can’t/wouldn’t tack up. She got physically stuck on friends horse. Not through fear of getting off but just couldn’t get off. She’s not a novice, she’s a beginner who hasn’t fully mastered trot yet. Her family aren’t horsey either so will be no help although they would do all the work/mucking out as the girl is not the type to go out in wind and rain and look after a horse.
what could go wrong with a 16hh tank of a horse living on its own with people who have no idea how to look after it?

I know it’s really judgmental but I don’t know why anyone would consider getting a big horse and keep it at home with so little experience.

The go fund me posts, “I’ve rescued xyz and need everything, and can you pay my vet bill too”.
A) if you paid money it’s not a rescue, it’s a purchase
B) if you can’t afford headcollars, buckets, a cheap rug, why did you get a horse?

it’s a “rescue” because they’ve “saved” it from somewhere or given it a better home. Usually roundabout ponies.

it’s concerning that if they can’t afford basic husbandry equipment how are they paying for things the horse needs from a welfare standpoint. Farrier, vet etc.

So I think some of these folk are massive chancers and just hope that by playing the rescue card folk might give them things for nothing.

I saw that one earlier this week so it's still kicking around. Very sad indeed

Every "equestrian influencer" and all the wannabe influencers ?

Maybe I've just not viewed the right story and there are good ones out there ? ??

I honestly do not see the appeal. Most of the "instafamous" big follower accounts can't ride one side of a rocking horse and are always moaning about some injustice in their lives if they aren't making tiktoks of the multiple new outfits they've been sent. The Blue Chip Academy participants are up there as the most irritating.

Being honest seeing some of these "influencers" wearing/using a brand puts me right off it and I've not bought certain brands solely because they make me think of certain influencers.

Every freebie that they get is the best thing they've ever used/worn and oh look, they have a discount/brand ambassador code ?

You can include "brand ambassadors" in this too. My vets have several and the one that I know, whilst a nice person, is the last you'd aspire to be like horse/riding wise. Its only because I like my vet so much that I've stayed because the social media "brand ambassador" promotion has made me want to change practices.

I know that's this is the way of the
world now, that it's cheap advertising for brands and there are plenty of people willing to sell their soul for a free baseball cap whilst spamming everyone with links ans brand names but yeah it bugs the life out of me.

I have on occasion tried to follow "influencers" thinking that it must be me and that I should be finding finding this shtick relatable/motivational/inspiring (delete as appropriate) but I just end up very glad that I'm not on a yard or RC with these attention seekers.

You'd think that there would be an element of free choice so because I've chosen not to follow influencers or BAs that I'd be free of the scurge but no, they have infiltrated every part of online equestrianism and publishing. I buy my niece & nephew Pony magazine and every issue features "influencers". To enter a completion they had to list 5 of their "favourite equestrian influencers". Ugg

Here endth today's vent ?

Some of the anti hunting posts - although some posts can be informative and justified, others twist the truth to manipulate situations, and the language and personal comments aimed at hunt followers, including children, is vile.

I appreciate they want to put a point across, but why be so verbally abusive.....in any other walks of life it would be classed as bullying and harassment but they seem to get away with it.

Whatever side of the fence you are re hunting, at least hunting folk do not respond in such a manner.

People who spend their time getting annoyed by other people's social media. Seriously, it's not healthy. Switch your phone off, take a social media holiday, do your own thing that makes you happy, and don't look at other people. Other people will always do things that annoy you, whether it's on social media or in real life. You can't change that, but you can change whether you look at it or let it wind you up.

My happiest time this year was spending 10 days in a remote area with no phone, internet, tv or radio signal. It doesn't take long before you replace scrolling through (and forming opinions on) other people's life choices with re-evaluating your own.

(and yes, I get that this is me writing how harmful social media is on a social media website. My irony detection is still functional!)

Without doubt it is the pseudo charities with their begging bowls. I fully support any formally registered charity operating in accordance with charity law but get quite grumpy with pony collectors who have more animals than they can cope with and so expect everyone else to fund them. If you are begging because you have run out of hay, don't take on any more horses and rehome some of the ones that you have. And as for the dealers masquerading as rescues......grrrrr.
