I would love some opinions. I am going to try the above supplement for my Cob.

He only gets hay at night and daily turnout on good old dairy pasture.

He proved erratic on anything with molasses and anything with alfalfa.

It's a lot of powder so I need something tasty with no molasses,no alfalfa etc. he has had A&P Fast Fibre in the past but the gut feeling is that didn't suit him either in fact I originally added topspec top chop lite and found out then that alfalfa was a bit toxic to his brain.
I was feeding the above to add a general supplement but now I am trying something more specific.

Thanks , Charlie's servant.

hello, have you actually spoken to the guys at Equifeast because from my experience, they will want to know everything about your Charlie including his current feed regime before sending you your individually prescribed supplement. I am a little confused that your asking feeding advice from the forum and not from a member of the Equifeast team. Email or ring them, they really want to know what Charlie's issue is and how they can help you.

Thanks yes I have spoken to them several times they do know his current feed regime and suggested a bit of chaff. However I had the topspec so thought I could get away with just a few small handfuls of the top chop.

He wouldn't eat it all I didn't want to fill the bucket it's Friday night so can't ring back until Monday so I am asking for some opinions on what others have tried. I will give them a quick bell tomorrow in case anyone is there but I would still like opinions of what others have fed.

I would use speedibeet personally - its unmollassed. Maybe some mint powder to make it smell more tempting..?

Hi, if he is sensitive to molasses why don't you try something like Allen & Page Fast Fibre, it's barley and molasses free and is ideal for the good doer or horses who tend to get excitable. The horse who we have on the Equifeast supplement has Fast Fibre as does my Dartmoor, who tends to put on weight. They both love the stuff! Requires a few minutes of soaking before feeding. Easily hide/mix Equifeast.

Thanks I may just do that and skip the topchop. I have been talking to Equifeast on and off for a while now but avoided buying CCC because you need to give a feed but maybe the feed isn't the issue and the behaviour is so will see how we get on.

I have to make sure I don't fall into the trap of feeding the wrong thing and hiding any benefits from the CCC.

It is my friends horse who has the Equifeast supplement, and if you trawl previous forums on Equifeast you will see I sing their praises. I have been helping break this 5 year old Warmblood. He has proved very difficult, very sensitive, very sharp and quite frightening at times BUT we now are experiencing consistently obedient behaviour and becoming so much more trainable. His improvement definitely coincides with the owner trying Equifeast after recommendation from a very high level GB dressage rider. Would we take him off it? No way, we are not brave enough yet!! It's been 6 months now and we are enjoying the ride! Go for it and I hope you have the same positive results.

Gloucestershire is very interesting in terms of soil selenium status. See this link to the results of a NERC survey on soil selenium status in England/Wales: http://www.bgs.ac.uk/nercsoilportal/maps.html See the second map down which is soil selenium status.

Dark blue is very deficient. Mid blue is deficient. Turquoise is OK.

Some parts of Glos are deficient; others are OK. So personally I'd test grass and hay to see how much the diet is providing, and use the results of that to guide you as to which vit/mins would be most suitable.

Forage selenium needs to be around 0.1mg/kg DM to be sufficient. Anything less is deficient. Levels of 0.05mg/kg or less are enough to cause muscle disease in a wide variety of species worldwide.

I've no idea what's in Equifeast. Have looked at their website, and there's lots of words but I couldn't see an analysis of mineral content. That would be what I'd want to see before deciding whether or not to feed any of the supplements.

No idea whether they use organic selenium (selenium yeast) or inorganic (sodium selenite) but my personal choice would be to avoid any that use only inorganic selenium, particularly if your area is deficient, as inorganic is known to be less bioavailable.
