What feed is best for a fresh, hot headed ISH?

Hi guys,

My 10yr old ISH is extremely hot headed and if not ridden for 1 day he will be very fresh.
What do you guys feed your more excited horses?
Do you think it has helped to take the edge of them a bit?


*P.S- has anyone else’s horse started to grow their winter coat yet? My boy is looking very fluffy and dull already, and it’s only August!*

Grass and Pure Feed balancer in the summer. And yes, living out he's starting to get a hairy bum.

I have a pony eventer that cant touch hard feed at all! when she's in full work she just gets a balancer and forage

The livery yard he is at doesn’t have 24/7 turnout. Are there any brand yous prefer better?

i found the topspec balancer sent her loopy, that's the only one i avoid! but any other balancer was fine. the bailey 'calm' feed worked well as well, i just gave her a handful with supplements.

Nothing, except decent quality hay, unless he needs feeding for a reason?

I feed mine lamigel as part of the equi diet. I would google it as it is really very good! They also note to stay clear of balancers as they cause 99% of behaviour issues.

If he needs hard feed, something low in starch and sugar. I feed Pure Easy to my ISH and he does really well on it and it doesn’t blow his brains.

Stay away from anything with molasses makes my ISH ridicoulously giddy 🙈
