Does anyone know what size field shelter would be best for 2 Shires (approx 17 hands) and a Cob (approx 15 hands)?

I was thinking a 24 x 12ft field shelter do you think that's too small?

I was also thinking 2 doorways measuring 8ft x 8ft with a floor to eaves height of 10ft. Any ideas if this would be enough please?

Sounds like you need a barn! 24x12 is probably the minimum, but I'd have it practically open fronted and facing away from prevailant weather rather than have two doors - they end up like wind tunnels..

Speak to some firms and see what sizes they do?

I've gone to a local firm but they are leaving sizing up to me. On the internet I've looked for the largest dimensions in terms of height and added a couple of ft. One website says you have to allow head height inside in case they rear up, would need a skyscraper then ha!

I'll spend all this money then when we get the horses they'll just look at it no doubt ha! At least they'll have the option-as long as they can fit in it!

Thanks for reading and your response. :)

Our clydesdale is 16.3 and my cob is 14.3. They would easily fit in a shelter of the size you describe, though if I could have any size, I would go for 14 x 24. Farra's stable is 12 x 11 and whilst she easily turns round, if I were to build my own stables I would have a 14 x 14 for her. I have put her in my cob's 10 x 14 and the extra length is great, but the 10' width is a little tight for turning round, especially as they get older.

I have a 12x24 and my 18.1 heavy, 16.2, 15.3 and 14.1 would all stand in when being fed, it's split into two halves and can be made stables. I love it!
