Im sure this has been asked many times before, so apologies!!

My dog has been de-flead/ wormed on a 3 month basis with about 3 weeks in between each by her old owner. However I forgot to ask what brand she had been using. Going from the dates she gave me of when she was last done, she is due to be wormed near the end of June and de-flead middle of July.

So, what worm/ flea treatment do you use and recommend? I don't really have a clue where to start really so any info appreciated :)

We use johnsons flea tablets

Bravecto for flea and tick cover(I've had more tick bites than the dog this year-yuck!)
expensive as a one off tablet but cheaper than advocate etc when you take into account the length of cover.
Milbemax is my choice for worms.Using it 3 monthly as I am in a low risk area for lungworm, otherwise i'd be using that one monthly.

Big fan of prevention is easier than a cure when it comes to fleas-hate trying to deal with the ******* once they get into a house.

I'm also using bravecto, a 3 month flea and tick control tablet. I worm with milbemax every 3 months, as above low risk for lungworm.

Thanks everyone!
Next question- where do you get it from? Is online better or do you go to a pet shop/ your vet?

Advocate for fleas and lung worm as we are a very high risk area. Drontal as a wormer every 3 months. Advocate I buy from my vets. Roughly £30 a month for 2 large dogs. I buy the generic drug from vetuk rather than the drontal. For all the cats and dogs it works out about £1-£1.50 a tablet.
I also buy indorex spray from there just in case :-)

Sorry to hijak, My vet told me I only needed to use Advocate monthly for fleas and worms for my puppy... does it actually cover both or would I be better to worm as well?

Your vet will tell you. I think there's a map online too. Shall go look for it. Lungworm killed my dog. It's a hideous hideous parasite. Panacur has good results against lungworms xx

So if I am giving monthly advocate, what with and how often should I be worming as well?

I am new to this dog malarkey... give me a horse to worm any day :)

Advocate for fleas, Cestem (same as Drontal) for worms. Every three months for worms, I think. Unfortunately, two of mine puked their guts up last night, so the wormer I gave earlier in the evening won't have worked :rolleyes3: Poor babies. They're fine and dandy today, no idea what caused the sickness when big dog ate the same, had the wormer etc.

Thank you cinnamontoast, I think I will worm her with Cestem at the end of this month then when she has her Advocate! Unfortunately I cant buy my advocate online currently as being a 6.5 month old Rottweiller she is a different weight range every month so needs a different size every month which is a pain.
Looks like the Cestem for large dogs will be what she has as of now and until she goes over 35kg (hopefully she stops there!!)
