It's getting to that time of year again, ther horses have been in for a while and I'm thinking about trying to find a product to freshen and clean up their stables.

Needs to be safe for the horses and not degrade the mats, as well as be fresh smelling and easy to use, oh and cost effective.

Let me know what you use and what works best?

Thanks

I just give mine a spray weekly with diluted Zoflora disinfectant (I use the lavender one) - its brilliant stuff and after a good sweep and a spray with that they smell lovely.

Been using if for years on both Equimats and the normal black rubber bobbly mats and it has had no effect on them at all by the way.

Think i might need to get some zoflora! My boy has been on stable mats since March and has only recently started coming in over night. Scrubbed it all out saturday and had the mats up....it was disgusting!

Its quite funny at our yard as most people use it now, everyone has a recycled Mr Muscle bottle or similar of it hanging outside their stable and weekends when most people do their weekly big muck out the smell as you walk into the barn is overpowering - no horse smell - just floral Zoflora!

Lol. i dont mind the "horse" smell. its the rank smell from under the mats. lol. Lets just hope the boy likes his stable smelling of flowers :D

I use jeyes fluid, undiluted to clean stable once/twice a year, and they also sell stuff in a spray bottle which I use on a weekend to spary on mats and near the drainage hole etc

I know cats dont like jeyes but does it stop dogs too? yard has dogs and i keep having to shut my door as they go and crap in there :(

I don't think cats dislike Jeyes, more that it is fatally poisonous to them! That said, I think 'new' Jeyes fluid is no longer toxic to cats? I don't think Jeyes would harm dogs but I don't think it would stop them pooing in your stable unfortunately.

I use the standard Pine Disinfectant in my stable. I can't lift the mats myself (weak wimpy girl) but I pour this liberally on the mats and through the gaps and it definitely gets rid of the stench.

I use Stalosan F

It dries the stable too if its wet. I put mine under the mats before i laid them (or when i lift them to hose outside) then i put this down every couple of days on top under my bed. Its an ammonia neutraliser rather than just a cleaner so is good for their airways (i know alot of pig farmers use this, you can get in a 20kg bag to for about £40 i think)

Nothing.
When I put the mats down I cut them bigger than the size of the stable floor, the last one to go down in the row bellied up and I stood on it to get it down. Result is that there are no gaps at all between the mats. Mats have been down 4 years and not been up since. No smell, no liquid under mats.
