Hi All,

I brought My Mare an Amigo Bug Buster Fly Rug but it didnt fit her properly so sold it on. Im after a fly rug with a belly part on it and i like the Rambo (Brown) Protector Fly Rug and the Premier Equine Lite Fly Rug?

What are your opinions? Do they come up true to size or bigger or smaller? My mare is 7ft/7ft 3 in rugs.

Many Thanks
:) x

Best you can get is Rambo IMO. Closely followed by Premier Equine.

I have got one of their "lite" fly rugs (the ones which are made of guaze-type material???) and TBH it hasn't worn terribly well, plus for some reason my mare started rubbing her tail in it. Dunno why!!

Sometimes their sizes come up a bit big, sometimes a bit smaller. Its annoying!!

If you decide to go for a Premier equine one the sweet itch ones are well made rugs and on offer at the moment.

Thank you big help :)

For a extra £10 i can get the Rambo so think i will just buy that, its good strong material. I know what material your on about and completely agree and i also found some horses tend to sweat in it??

All mine have the Rambo. Any others they just wreck. Plus I like the way their whole belly is covered. Def the best fly rug I've tried.

I have a Rambo with removable neck. It's one that you can add the waterproof layer to if wanted (although I'm yet to finds a waterproof layer that doesn't cost the earth in relation to the cost of the rug!).

I'd say they come fairly true to size tbh. My mare is normally a 6ft but bought her a 6ft3 due to shop not having a 6ft (in the sale) and it drapes off her like a 6ft3 would do. Good quality and it's my go to fly rug.

I have the PE and its fab, depends on the build of horse though. Mine is a welsh and it fits perfectly but a friend with a gypsy cob tried one and it wouldn't go around the chest.

Many thanks all, feedback is much help.

Decided im going to go for the Rambo for my girl now deciding between the Rambo Fly Buster and the Rambo Protector...On the pictures it looks like both have belly parts on but cant see 100% can anyone confirm they have??

Dont want to order one then have to send back etc...

Shires sweet itch hoody.

had 3 rambo's on our yard and they all dropped to bits-binding frays away from the rug and the surcingles just drop off. All repaired and had all broken again in a DIFFERENT spot within a week.

Binned them all and now have 3 shires, love them, cool, light, shower proof and big belly guard.

4th horse has a weatherbeeta super fly detach a neck which is also really good and well made but not a true sweet itch rug as wont stop the midges due to more open weave.

the older generation rambos were great, the newer ones are rubbish imo. and PE have rubbed every horse we have had them on.

Hi Ive got both and would say the Rambo protector is more durable but it hasnt got a belly protector as such, its shaped with leg arches and then goes longer again so it can kind of wrap round the belly but both sides dont meet, well they dont on my horse. My PE rug is an old type bug buster and doesnt have a belly either.

It's odd my mare has started rubbing her tail in hers too!! How very strange.

I swear by Premier Equine for heavyweights, trio rugs, etc., but agree that some rugs come up big and others small!

I recently bought their new stay dry fly rugs and am very disappointed in them - not only did they come up small but the stitching is shocking and, despite only having them on for a matter of weeks and not all the time, the stitching is coming away and there is a tear in the material. I will be going back to Mark Todd, which, whilst not waterproof, have stayed in place, up to size, and untorn for three years!!

I have 2 PE super lite fly rugs, I purchased 1 for my baby and within a week the nylon lining on the huge tail flap had come unstitched at the top, not a major issue but I wasn't happy as she had only worn if about 5 times, on closer inspection the stitching around the withers was poor, tatty and untidy although it was not torn.
The velcro on the chest keeps coming undone and folding back too, which on a sensitive thin skinned WB is not the one!
I phoned PE and they were very helpful, I got a second rug for £30 and kept the original.
I haven't got round to mending the original yet though!

Strangely enough, she also has a rubbed tail!

i have a rambo and a premier equine, i personally think the rambo is better quality although both have remained in good condition. they both fit well.

My mare has to wear a bib with hers as it's rubbing her shoulders! With regards to the Velcro coming undone my sister's mare has had this happen to her and the metal clips rubbed over night and took the fur off. Again she is having to wear hers with a bib too, to see if it makes any difference. Must say I love the PE winter turn out rugs, think they are lovely and warm. However, I have not been impressed with the fly rugs.
