Want to feed a mix of dry & wet but mainly dry, will be having fish/meat to liven it up a bit when we have meat for dinner ect, but cannot feed the raw diet as my mum doesnt want to. (have explained benifits of it ect but still a no)

So what dry food & wet food would you reccomend and nothing too expensive, being able to get it at pets at home is a bonus as thats where the other pets food comes from :)

Ta in advance!!

To be honest I think this is down to each individual dog - is yours a fussy eater? I went through all the lovely natural/organic brands for my lurcher and constantly had to add oil to get her to eat them. The only thing she really wolfs down is pedigree dry food with a bit of Tesco finest pate type food mixed in. I don't even shop in Tesco - those are the lengths I had to go to to find something she wanted to eat.

I would try the most natural mix you can afford (have you tried naturediet? I think you can get that in Pets at Home these days) and see how it goes down.

I havent got him yet, but ive been told hes not particually fussy but hes been only been on the one food the whole time hes been in kennels. :)

Its all a learning curve for me this dog owning thing ;)

Make sure you've got a supply of whichever type of food he's currently eating then gradually introduce the food that you want him to eat, adding a little bit extra each day - a sudden switch in diet could have unwanted consequences in the toilet department!

James Wellbeloved and Burns are both available in Pets at Home and seem to be organic/natural. They're not too pricey and they sell both in my vets which is slightly reassuring. They seem like lovely products - I just wish my girl wasn't such a princess about what goes into her bowl.

Good luck with your new boy!

Excellent news that you are having him :D Dont bother with JWB or Burns, they are wickedly expensive for no reason - feed Skinners Duck and Rice (which you can get in Pets At Home), it is half the price and mine loved it and looked fantastic on it :)

If you want to add the odd topping to it then raw eggs, tinned pilchards in tomato sauce, raw meat etc will all go down well - dont feed cooked meat with any bones in it of course! Wouldnt recommend any brand of tinned dog food to be honest, although Butchers Tripe is probably the best if you can stand the smell :p

You will need to get his teeth checked at least yearly on a dry food diet, and will probably have to have them scaled yearly - my vets bill averaged £350 for a visit, which included extractions, as greyhounds always have appalling teeth. The only thing which improves their teeth is a raw diet - might be a bit of an incentive for your mum to allow it :D

i have whippets and are fed on redmills tracker/racer cost between£11-15 per 15 kg bags, you may not get it at pets at home but im sure they'l deliever

i also feed raw aswell(not together)

also' keepers mix' is a good conditioner from dorwest herbs

my whippys teeth are white and shiny, never need to clean or de scale

I have a lurcher and he's on Skinners Maintenance with 1/3 of a carton of naturediet (usually lamb or rabbit & turkey) mixed in. It does him really well, nice shiney coat, clean teeth and he loves it!

And every other day he gets a tin of sardines (in oil) or a cooked egg for brunch, otherwise he gets a bonio :D

I've got one grey on Skinners F&T salmon & rice and the other on Fish4dogs salmon & potato (as skinners gave him wind) with occasional toppings rather than mixing with wet. I order both online from VetUK and its delivered to my door so saves me hassle of going to shop & risk of buying unnecessary extra's. You can get samples from skinners to try before buying a sack.

I used to feed them wainwrights salmon & potato from P@H which the dogs did well on, but got fed up it often being out of stock in our store when i visited, then the dogs went off it anyway. A lot tends to depend on what suits your dogs digestion as their all individuals.
