I tried cardboard bedding for my two horses, one ultra clean (semi deep litter, two bales a month to top up established shavings bed) and one filthy (think shovel and go, bale of shavings per week on rubber mats) and found it really impossible to work easily on either. A sharp prong straw fork as opposed to shavings fork is easiest. I did find it easier when mixed with shavings though!
