What fruit and veg can you feed horses? apart from carrots and apples of course!

My horse is on box rest so trying to think of some different treats for him. I have tried swede and he loves that! was not keen on bananas though!!!!

Everything except potatoes! even cherries ,satsumas ,pears, bananas, sprouts, just try them with everything youll be amazed they all like different things!:D

It is funny watching their faces when they try new things!!! I have introduced ours to the joys of pears and they slurp and slobber them all over!

As above but they can eat cooked potato! Sometime I'll boil up my potato peelings or give them some leftover cooked potatoes for an extra treat at dinner time. They like them.

My greedy girls won't touch brocolli or celery though. They look at me as if I'm trying to poison them.

Please be careful with brassicas as some say any cabbage is bad for horses and can cause colic and other gastric problems. Not sure where i found this out but I am sure you should be able to find something on the internet search thingies.

If in doubt leave it out. Saying that though, I'm sure swede is a brassica but only the root is eaten.

I get the veg peelings from the kitchen at work and my horses have them in a big tug trug every night. It gives them so much variety especially during the winter when grass etc is not as available. Mine get :-

Broccoli
Carrot
Swede
Cauliflower
Apple peelings
Parsnip
Celery
Cucumber
Pear
Grapes

The only thing that mine won't eat is tomatoes and leek. They have a bin bag between three of them every night and have never had any problems.
