My cobs a funny thing and doesnt like swedes, parsnips or bananas unless hidden in her dinner.

She has eaten carrots, apples, pears, polos, 'skips and monster munch' a bit of an ham sandwich, chocoloate covered digestives, Marmite sandwiches, cabbage leaves.

cant think of anymore. oh and she also likes my phone...

Lol! cobs will try anything wont they :D

Not mine! Fussy beastie! She'll eat the normal stuff and she gets veg peelings but when we took all of them off on a driving adventure, the others were having slurps of beer/ cider (only a little, not enough to make them drunk so don't worry!), mugging people for crisps and sweets and she turned her nose up at the lot. spat out the banana she was given. for a fat beastie, she's fussy about her food!

Mine would do *anything* for a grape, he even likes them more than polos. You have to watch the quantity though as grapes ferment and there's a tiny colic risk.

He also adores salt and vinegar snack-a-jacks and cheese sandwiches (discovered when he tried to nick my packed lunch at a show, a lesser known peril of rear facing 3.5 horseboxes...) but he only gets tiny bits of either and only if I'm not watching my lunch carefully enough or he really needs cheering up.

Jester has a swede every morning with his hay. 2 carrots sliced length-ways with his dinner and sometimes a parsnip (cut the same).
He LOVES pears but they are a special treat for xmas and birthdays. i can't eat cheese and onion crisps in peace and he ate some of my pups biscuits the other day
He won't touch banana's though :p

My last horse was mad for satsumas and oranges. I asked the vet if it was ok for him to eat them and he said doesn't matter as horses don't like citrus. He said mine was the first horse he'd known to eat them and advised me he could see nothing wrong if he liked them so much. He lived to 21 years so obviously it did him no harm.

I have known loads of horses who like citrus... One pony loved satsumas(and Lilt from the can) until i gave him a whole one and it squirted at him, he turned himself inside out and stood snorting at it until i removed it. It took a long time to get over his 'orange' trauma after that :p But we got there in the end :D

Thanks Ginger Bear - mine have been known to raid the veggie patch, so I won't be growing leeks anytime soon. Pears and lettuce (lots of varieties, the more the merrier!) are favourite snacks. Have also known to nibble some herbs -parsley, mint, but thought the basil was revolting.

Interesting clinical sign: "vomiting". That's not within the equine repertoire of bodily emissions, is it

Maybe that bit is for the signs in cats/dogs?

Everything within reason - they love variety and apart from tomatoes, onions, leeks, strawberries and potato they should get a chance to experiment

My big lad loves everything except apples! Even melon is preferred!

They love the bits of butter nut squash. And they like things like brussels.

Pony is quite partial to raw ginger root peelings!

But they love nuts too - all kinds of nuts. We buy bags that are knocked down after Christmas, or cheap bags from Lidl/Aldi as a treat

Variety is good for us - why not for them?

My cob Merlin stole a chocolate hob-nob from the farrier - he now makes sure he stands out of reach when eating his biscuits. Merlin loved the hob-nob and I think this is why he now frisks the farrier for treats when he first arrives on the yard :)

So what's wrong with tomatoes? I tried giving some to my girl the other month and she totally refused to eat them (probably just as well)
She likes apples, pears, carrots and parsnips and LOVES swede.
She won't eat bananas.
Haven't really tried much else other than occasional cauliflower and broccoli trimmings.

I think my boy and my friends horse would eat anything given the chance as they are porky pigs :D

We feed them normally on apples, carrots and bananas

A treat once every week or so is malt loaf, they love it and its so funny watching them chew it :D

lol popping candy. Mine eat most things - last year read somewhere marmite sandwiches are good to keep away flies - mine both ate them no problem, so did my friends one Maisie but Abe (who normally licks my coat strange thing!) spat it out and stamped on it was really funny I have never seen him turn his nose up at anything before or since!
haven't let them have bananas - but they did help Lucy eat a mars type bar the other day - archie really wasnt' sure what to do with it in his mouth

A brilliant thing for giving tablets in - Soreen Fruity Malt Loaf. Always works - esp for bigger ones like Metformin.

My lads are VERY partial to a piece of crystallised ginger!
