bit of a vague title,, but I'm having a bit of a head mush moment!
Ok, so I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant, due in October. I've had to put my riding on hiatus, which means I can at least spend this period planning what I can do.
My own sports horse has had to go on loan, as we won't have the time or money that he deserves to carve a good competition career. A friend has given me his horse, to do what I want with. And the best part is that it is kept on full livery, so I just turn up and ride when I want.
I've not seen his passport, but suspect he is pure ID. He is GORGEOUS. I'm usually a stocky TB/WB sort of person, but this horse is just film-star looks - he looks like one of the black horses from lord of the rings, or the black horse in braveheart. Big cresty neck, long thick mane. He's 16.3.
Aside from drooling over how lucky I am - what, once I've popped out baby (and providing it all goes well) can I hope to do with him? I'm in to my SJ, but he's no jumper. Though last summer when I was riding him for fun I got him jumping 3ft poles. He might do an ODE, but we'd have to find a xc course to practice on.
He's not had any professional schooling (in fact I am the only rider he's ever had do any school work on, and he's not a novice ride so has developed a bad rep due to owner putting novices on who have ended up in hospital, air ambulance etc) but he's SUPER intelligent, and picks up everything really quickly. I seriously love riding this horse - have been out for 4 hour hacks, played around in the paddocks etc.
Is dressage a goer? How do we get into it - any north west people? I have the number for a trainer whom I will contact nearer the time. Dressage always seemed like big Bavarian German scary people! Any showing classes - I can't seem to find much for ID types, and would never ever hog him.
