Sorry to be a bit morbid, but this has been on my mind, especially today when I drew up my will. I thought I would just put in my will my wishes but was advised to deal with this issue separately, for my horse and all my animals.

I wondered what provisions, if any, you have made in the event of your death to secure a future for your horses.

I have a non horsey OH and own a 7 yrd old 16.2 hh piebald ID x Cob. RDA or similar could be an option as he is a very quiet steady ride.

TBH If I died then H would probably be pts - My OH may choose to keep her and retire her - I think with all her issues it wouldn't be an option to sell her and she couldn't retire to grass so would be a lot of work for him

I share my horse with my mum. We own half each so if I die my mum keeps him, and vice versa. We've made sure we are both named on insurance documents etc to avoid any problems. If anything happened to my sister, my mum and I would look after her pony between us. He is 20 now so I think he is destined to be my son's lead-rein pony at some point anyway!

Havent got an OH, so family would probably find a nice home for Bob and I would want the money they get for him split between my niece and nephew (who get everything else when I die)

This really bothers me, it's the main reason i try so hard to stay alive! Someone posted about this about a year ago, after that it got me thinking, my parents/OH would happily keep the horses but money would be an issue..for that reason I have taken out a life insurance policy, if i die the money from that is for the horses (food, vet, livery if needed) I would not want them to be split up or sold on which is why I took out the policy, sounds like a daft thing to do but I feel allot better knowing they will be looked after if anything happened to me

I actually have a will at 17

Havn't put Tally on it, but he would stay with parents who would sell him I guess. I don't own the other.

I am only 16 so don't have a will, they technically belong to me mum, my dad if it's the vets and me fir eventing so my parents would keep them, my dad would keep the mare for my brother to ride or breed from her. Hopefully he would sell the gelding as he'd more trouble than he'd be worth without a rider. He would obviously also keep his cob, my brothers gelding, the 2yo and the Welsh is for sale anyhows.

If we all die they'd all get sold as no one else in the family likes horses.

If my dad dies we'd sell 4 and keep the pony and the mare, if my mum died we'd keep the lot.

Although this is obv. all in theory.

I have thought about this a lot

My friend and I have an agreement to take on each others horses. We've agreed that they will never be sold, but could go on loan or in the case of my elderly mare, be PTS if that is the best thing for her.

Kenellen would be pts (so many problems and can be dangerous) and Izzy would go to my friend Janes partner. I agreed this with her about a year and a half ago, and likewise with her horses in case she pops it lol

I share my mare with my OH and he loves her even more than I do if that's possible so she will never be sold. The cob is a bit small for OH but he'd probably keep him and let others on the yard ride him if they wanted or maybe loan him but state that he stays on the yard.

Ed would be kept in the field until he passed, unsure what my parents would choose to do with Sty but a good friend of mine would want to take him if anything happened to me and I would love for him to go to her it is only a verbal agreement at the moment though.

I have it written in my will that any animals I own at the time of death are left to my dad, who can do what he feels best for them, as my old pony was pts earlier this year he would only inherite 3 goldfish, and a mad Lab, which he looks after when we are away anyway, so I know he would keep them!

I have thought about it, and have discussed it with my OH, who doesn't ride (yet) but likes my horses (they like him too).
He'd keep my 20yr old in retirement, then have her PTS when necessary.
My two youngsters he'd either keep himself, part share, or put on loan.

mine would be sent to trainers to sell on and OH get the money. he is non-horsey so i would rather they went to new homes to be loved and played with than rotted away in a field. trainer would be instructed to find good homes but get a good price for them too

had to do a will years ago (sent overseas by OH employers) so mine go to WHW if anything happens to me. they have a financial allocation as a donation.

small pets also have a fund and care arrangements should anything happen to me and OH

No way would anyone be prepared to fork out for every months vets bills, and my horse is very devoted to me, plus she is old and retired, so my fellow liveries know that if I go, she is to follow me as soon as possible.

William would be shot if OH couldn't cope with him, as he is not a horse that could be past on.

The rest would be left to OH to do with what he wanted.

Ohh a sad post but perhaps one not thought about often!

Hubby and I have already talked about this one due to my illness, if I go then Rose our boys Welsh A would stay on farm at home, my bay mare would stay at home but would end up being retired I think as husband Lars is too tall to ride her sadly. He told me selling the horses would be far too painful for him and the boys.

my oh would keep definatly keep my boy and would probably keep my girl as company for him but they would effectively become pets because he is non horsey but loves them (infact he keeps trying to say the boy is his, in his dreams)
