Out of interest?

Our Grey mare was covered by a skewbald today, so will have answer in 11 months time hopefully.... in the mean time what is the likely outcome?

Well I'll tell you if my mare ever foals! Cloud is grey and my guy is a bay tri-coloured roan tobiano. When I did the colour-test I was given a 56% chance of the foal (who is late!) being grey and white tobiano.

I think it does depend on whether the horse is a bay or a chestnut coloured though.

Depends whether the stallion is 'homozygous' - think that's the word (!) for coloured stallions that carry the gene which has 100% likelihood of producing a coloured foal.

If not, then could come out any colour I think!

Thanks Tia

So errr whats American for 'Fleabitten Grey' and 'Skewbald'???

This was Cloud's prediction:

56.25% - Gray Tobiano
18.75% - Gray
4.94% - Silver Bay Tobiano
4.94% - Silver Bay Roan Tobiano
1.65% - Bay Roan Tobiano
1.65% - Silver Black Tobiano
1.65% - Bay Tobiano
1.65% - Silver Bay Roan
1.65% - Silver Bay
1.65% - Silver Blue Roan Tobiano
0.59% - Chestnut Tobiano
0.59% - Chestnut Roan Tobiano
0.55% - Bay
0.55% - Blue Roan Tobiano
0.55% - Black Tobiano
0.55% - Silver Black
0.55% - Silver Blue Roan
0.55% - Bay Roan
0.20% - Chestnut
0.20% - Chestnut Roan
0.18% - Blue Roan
0.18% - Black

Does the horse have a brown and white head? And patches? Then it is tobiano.

Just put grey for the mare

My friends grey mare was put to a skewbald and has just had a beautiful coloured foal -skewbald, almost liver and white. If you want a piccy drop me a pm; I dont want to publish piccies of her on here, as shes not mine!

Not really sure but we have covered our grey mares with our chesnut stallion in the past and the results were skewbald, or grey.
The blue and white mare to dark bay and chesnut three times produced 2 blue and white foals and a chesnut and white.
Her daughter a blue and white mare produced blue an white to both chesnut and black sires..
I reckon you might get chesnut and white... (very unusual..)

I was with CSJ today at the stud, and they have a good number of chestnut and white yearlings ATM - I have never seen so many in one place, was odd!

A foal I once bought was born liver chestnut and white and turned blue and white...but her mum was blue and white..sire unknown tho..

I know someone that puts her skewbald mare to her grey arab stallion, and has so far got a Bue and white, and a bay and white which I think will turn blue and white (gone roany already). The mare consistently throws either coloureds or bays, and was also put to last news, a grey TB, and the out come is very very dark bay and white.... depends on parens on dam and stallion sides to how strong the coloured gene is....

Our mare is out of a grey ID mare, by a coloured stallion. She is grey (thankfully), but when she is wet you can see that her grey coat colour masks her skin colour which is patches of pink and dark. I would say there is a high poss that if we breed from her, we will get a coloured foal.
