My pony has had a transformation. I would almost say he may have had an epiphany recently.

He has gone from a lazy fat lump, who tanked to the school gate at every opportunity, refused/ran out at EVERY jump (and trotting poles

), wasn't keen on cantering and was hideously obese..... (n.b: even when he was like this he was still my perfect pony - he gave me my confidence back)

....to a pony who loves nothing more than cantering round a school and popping over little jumps

Today we were doing 50cm straight bar jumps, which I know is still tiny but it's a big deal for us. We also did some mounted games, canter poles, trotting poles, and my friend rode him bareback.

I don't know why he's changed his mind about jumping...but he's soooo much fun at the moment

Maybe its because you've got your confidence back and are enjoying yourself that he is feeling happy and enjoying himself. Good for you as well I know where you are coming from my knees still knock at the thought of jumping.

Awwww that's lovely!
Well done you!
Everyone is different and we've all got different aims and achievements - if we didn't it would be a boring world wouldnt it!

Losing your confidence is awful - I've been there so I know how hard you've worked to get where you are!

I can't blame him for not wanting to jump in the bog pit that was your previous school! It's nice that it has made such a difference - it sounds like he's having a whale of a time

PS - I think there was a typo in your OP....you put 50cm - surely you mean 5cm????? Surely?

Definitely 50cm!! I checked and double checked! I even took a picture of it! He was in to jumping before we moved though, so it's not the surface! It's just like something has clicked in his brain and now he likes it!
