What hat for 19 months old toddler?

Mine used his bike helmet at that age. It is important they are light as their necks are not very strong.
 
I am another who would not use a bike helmet.

When mine were little you couldn't get skull caps super small so they started with a standard Champion velvet hat, but as long as at meets regulations then it will be fine.

You need to actually try it on and get a fitter's opinion, not just guess. It's your child's HEAD you're talking about here :(
 
Lelly, his head is 49cm but the online shop said you can buy some kind of foam insert/pads to make it fit properly as they said I would struggle to find a hat of his size.(they sent me a link of the things)
Are these pads safe?
Never thought it would be hard to buy a hat for a little one!
 
The pony club - which lets face it is very safety conscious - recommends that children not wear formal riding hats until at least 9 years of age because the weight of the hat will cause neck damage in a fall. Under age 9 they can use bike helmets. There are very robust ultra light bike helmets available for kids -and yes they are almost all dial adjusted. You can also get bike style riding helmets on the continent which actually meet PAS015 - but I've not found a UK supplier for them. At 19 months old the mechanics of a fall from a horse or from a bike are probably pretty much similar - he's not going to be galloping around the paddock on his own! A well made bike helmet will be just fine and far safer than a skull type cap on such a relatively weak neck.
 
You would be better getting one fitted. You can still order it online if you find it cheaper or ask the shop if they price match. I don't know if any do though.
 
The Polly Products adjustable ones would be ideal, they have a dial adjustment. A normal hat would be too heavy at that age and can damage a small child's neck. We use the PP ones for a lot of our RDA riders for the same reasons as many have poor head and neck control and they are certified to BE EN1384. The kids size does 48 - 52 cm heads.
 
I recently bought a dial one (won't name but it was pink and under 30)- think it was sized 52- 54cm? Anyway she measures 53 and the hat just did not fit. If you buy online, you cannot return them either so its a bit of a false economy. I found a fault (in my opinion) with the hat (not very well made and tape coming off). Manufacturer said return it, but for the money I paid they weren't going to be 'top notch'.....!! So I bought a champion skull (had it fitted properly).

She isn't going to be on the pony for hours & only lead rein (I know accidents do happen, but would like to think no high speed/fast falls at this point!!). So I am a no to dial ones (oddly her bike helmet fits perfectly & has a dial)....
 
It is a minefield trying to find hats for little ones. I have to admit (*dons flak jacket*)that my daughter started with a bike helmet as after hours of research I couldn't find one small enough. She then progressed to a Polly hat with the dial which has been pretty successful although I'm not keen on the fixed peak. The 'proper' hats are often too heavy for delicate neck bones and I decided that as she was obviously on the lead rein with me holding her the bike helmet was the way to go as I couldn't find an alternative.
