Thinking of taking the baby to a local show on Saturday to let him see the sights, maybe enter a class or two (despite his half clipped neck where I experimented with clipping ages ago) and hopefully load him afterwards, fingers crossed! Probably a stupid question but what is he supposed to wear on his head? I've seen young Welsh Cobs & mares wear white headcollars but as he's just turning two and uncut does he need to be bitted? If so I'll have to leave it but I would like to take him for a bit of experience.

Ah yes, I have one of those floating around somewhere, not sure if it would be too big, though. So they have to be bitted? I thought as much due to size/age but not sure. May have to take a raincheck, then, he hasn't been bitted yet.

Yes he would have to be bitted. All Welsh colts must be bitted from 2 years onwards. To be honest it doesn't take long to bit them and all the ones I have done have taken to it very well and quickly. Just use a nice nylon bit and you will fine.

Thanks all, I'm going to try him with one tomorrow and see how he goes. He's pretty laid back but like most cobs he can have his diva moments! I'll have a bash at posting pics from my phone even though he's looking a bit scabby and all sorts at the moment - he really doesn't look his breeding at this point lol :p

This was the day I viewed him in late April last year

This was in January when he suddenly developed a proper horse bum

In February when I clipped his neck for the first time (just for the experience)

And looking extremely unimpressed afterwards (he's on a slope here but he is a bit bum-high)

Sorry they're not exciting.
