Hi everyone 🤗 so long story short but I’m looking into planting a long stretch of a mix of hedging and trees to use as a more natural fence line and shelter in the near future. Just wondering what types of trees or hedges your horse’s have access to in their fields, what they seem to prefer to snack on.

I put in hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, holly, elm, field maple, goat willow, dogwood, dog rose and gorse in hedges and as trees oak, crab apple, silver birch, hornbeam, service, rowan, sweet chestnut, small-leaved lime. Judging by what they eat when the electric isn't working, they like all of these.

Mine are obsessed with silver birch, and they'll have a good munch on hawthorn. One of them eats beech leaves, which I'm sure aren't too good for her? But mostly their favourite is brambles 🤷‍♀️

Judging by the number of pips in the poo, one of them really likes rose hips - the other one likes sweet chestnut (rears up to reach the leaves) and they both love brambles.
