What height will he make

A very rough guide is 2 hands on their yearling height. But they are all individuals. My "supposed to be a sub 15hands sports pony" is currently nearly that height at 17 months!

Another way to check is to use a piece of string to measure from their knee down to the coronet band. The measurement in inches should give an approx height in hands. I am disregarding that however, as mine is a very compact youngster, and it puts him at 16hands plus. Therefore its nonsense as far as I'm concerned :D

I've heard both of these too and at 12 months my lad was 14.2, so that would make 16.2 adult height, also did that string test and that also gave 16.2 as the adult height, it still might be right, but at 21 months old he's already 15.3!

So the string thing from knee to coronet is that from the top of the knee?

The more scientific way to do it is to consider that at 12 months old, most horses will have reached 90% of their final height.
So:
a 13.3/14hh yearling (at 12 months old) should make about 15.2hh
a 14.1/14.2hh yearling (at 12 months old) should make about 16hh
a 14.3/15hh yearling (at 12 months old) should make about 16.2hh
a 15.1/15.2hh yearling (at 12 months old) should make about 17hh

Obviously, all horses are different...
