Hi there i am just wondering what height yous think i should be looking at i am a 6ft 9stn guy i have jst gave up my horse i had on loan and since its later in the year now i was going to start looking for a horse i am only 17. And only have up to bout 1k as the insurance if my horse did not pay out wen we lost her to nuvicular last year. I jst wannt something i can have fun on do pony club/riding club compete etc basically have fun on i nw my budget is extremly low buti hope i can get something with it. Any advice would be great

Well I'd normally say you'd not get anything even remotely decent for 1k but with the market as it is, you could certainly get a nice enough horse for that money, but would take some finding.

At 6ft, you really need something with height, you'd prob fit 17hh nicely.
But then a 15hh chunky horse would take up your leg.
Weight wise you could probably ride anything, a 13hh native would carry you no bother but you might look a tad daft lol ;)
 
For your budget you could get a unbroken horse and back him/ her yourself, this is very much fun :)
Or maybe an ex racer?

And height wise as said above any native over 13hh would take you but I personally wouldn't go under 15.2 if I was you it depends what your comfortable on though.
 
round here (North East) if your prepared to spend time viewing some horrors then 1k should get you something that will either do what you want now but is older, or will do what you want with some time and work. At York sales there sadly is untold TBs going through for a couple of hundred quid :( 6 foot is tall but your light and should be able to get away with a 'normal' sized horse. My advice is if your short on money then put the time in and view anything that sounds like it might be suitable and is anywhere near budget!

A month ago there was a 16.1/2hh TB mare, 4 year old, nice conformation and good temperament, that had been in training for a months, professionally reschooled then chucked out for 3 months, who was up for offers around £500. If I had the facility for a mare then I reckon I could have bought her for £300

If you look hard enough there is mega bargains to be had at the minute.
 
Hi there. Thanks for your help :-) i thonk id be happy with a 16.1hh medium weight to a big tb. Im up for traveling a far distance. Im in edinburgh and would go down to yorkshire etc if it sounds gd. With the horse id be doing pony clyb next year all rallies camp competing etc thn after next year id want to join ridin club. Im happy hackin at home schooling away to myself nd jumpn etc im confident nd will jump up to 5ft i dnt mind gettn sumn young 4ish to hring on or sumin to reschool ex racer orbsumin but no older thn 12'at very oldest. I am at a yard jst nw but i am movin as im rly nt happy. I have a 14hh conemara which i will mt sell shes 12 nd ave had her 7years nw. If you see anything would u let me know. Is there anywhere u would suggest looking? i find it hard cuz i always look in the wrong places

I would look on horsemart definatly and do an advanced search so you don't get tempted by anything out of budget.
Have a look on horsequest aswell but also ask around local pony clubs and riding clubs to see if they know of anything which would suit you.
You also may get lucky and get a horse on loan :)

ive been looking on horse mart all day lol, and ive refinded my search as i get easily distracted on the nice expensive dream horses lol i did find a horse 16.2hh tb it said £500 but must of been advertised wrong as its now at 1750, ive emailed a few but not 100% sure yet, im not sure what age id want to get up to either, im sayin 12, but im not sure, what age would you be prepared to take up to? im just going to keep looking all the time, i just started this afternoon so cant expect to find something already lol, i have the option to get one on loan i had her last year when my georgi got pts and i loved her but moved yard and gave her up0 which i am really regreting, she was 16 so now 17 but a great horse i dont mind her age as she was on loan, but im thinking of moving back there and gettin her again as she was fab nice 16.1hh heavy irish sports just need to keep looking i suppose
i have lefty school and looking for a job over the winter, so if i dont find anything in a few months i will hopefully have a bigger budget
