Hello all im new to the H+H forums.

I'm hoping to buy an event prospect next weekend if I like him. He'll be my first horse and I was just wanting advice on whos the best company to insure with?

I got a quote with South Essex and that was about £20. Is that a reasonable price? The horse is a 17hh gelding and im hoping to do some unaffiliated SJ and dressage and some intro/pre-novice BE events in the future.

Thanks,

Hello
Im new too.

I have always used the NFU. Infact everything we own is insured with them. I have never had any trouble with them paying out on any claim whether is was for horses, cars, tractors you name it we have made a few claims over the years and they have always been fab. I presume you mean £20 per month, you need to check that the policy covers you also for liability and vets fees, these are most important. I would get a quote off the NFU as they cover for half livery if horses needs to go to vets and also £500 towards transport. Not all insurance companies do this. Cant recommend them highly enough.

Yeah I presume so. It was an online quote so im not sure exactly. I'll have to call em to get the details.

NFU very good! Very helpful, best to phone Monday for quotes though, seen your pic of your prospective horse next post up, I am not an expert but doesn't do it for me I am afraid but I like shorter coupled horses myself! Good luck in your search though!!

I work right next to the NFU main offices near Stratford lol. I dont know if its an office I can go into to talk to people though. I'll give them a call instead. I got a quote for £44 per month from another company so that would be with vets fees. Excess £120. Sounds more like it. Thanks for the advice!

Prob depends on where you are re the quote and they go on your home postcode not the code where your horse is.

Mine is about £36 per month with vets fees, same excess as you have been quoted, but I have had to do my first claim 7 weeks ago and they have been very very helpful on the phone with any questions or queries I have had. All the people I have talked to have been very knowledgeable and frankly couldn't be more kind and considerate. A lot of people on here recommend them.

The cheapest quote may not necessarily be the best deal for you so shop around and what ever you do INCLUDE VETS BILLS!! I though my horse was indestructible, shame the horse that kicked him didn't think so!!

also a vote for nfu but be careful with their transport clause as it has to be a defra registered transporter not just someone out of the horse free papers etc but in my area the only defra transporters are two companies that import and export horses to and from europe and they weren't very interested in me needing to go 20 miles down the road with one horse! other than that fab cover and really quick settlement

NFU, South Essex, Petplan...almost any of them are good but steer clear of E&L. There have been loads of posts from their dissatisfield customers
