Hi

I am at uni at the moment, but the course I'm doing is only 3 days a week, so have some spare time. When I have finished my foundation degree, I plan to top up to full Bsc degree by distance learning, so I can work at the same time. Now I would like to do something with horses in this time. So I was thinking about what horsey courses I could do now to help me when I will be looking for work, and wanted peoples opinions on what would be best? So have done a poll, and any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks

BHS exams for sure - NVQs are known as 'Not Very Qualified' and can be regarded as a bit of a joke, unfortunately.

I think if you can do both then do! The more qualifications you have the better! If you and someone else went for a job and you had the extra qualifications then it may well swing the job your way!

It really depends on which field you want to go in to, if it is teaching then the BHS will get you the necessary qualifications etc and obviously shows you have a good al round knowledge, but what many yards really want these days is someone who can ride/bring on/compete to a decent level, that is what is so hard to come by these days!

I depends on what you want to do - do you just want to further your education with horses or do you want to work in the equine industry? There are a lot of jobs available in the equine industry requiring different fields of knowledge and experience etc...

Most employers I've spoken to who want someone who can ride/bring on/competed to a decent level want BHS exams - they're not only for teaching.
