... TO rugs that money can buy? Any weight. I'm just really curious about peoples experiences and views and even more interested in those of people who's horses live OUT 24/7. Many thanks!!
Fal if I could afford them although I do own the original fal pro viking and it has lasted me over 10 years and still going strong!! weetherbeeta orican freestyle was my latest purchase and have been happy with that as well.
Fal. I could only afford one of their under rugs though (its great, got a water proof belly wrap!) to go under my Premier Equine winter buster. Fal are closely followed by Rambo.
my horse lives out all year and i have a mark todd rain sheet, a weatherbeeta medium weight and a weatherbeeta heavy weight with neck all of which are brilliant. The mark todd was new last year, but the weatherbeetas are 4+ years old (i pinched them when someone left our yard and left them behing!
fal and rambo, more expensive initially but last for years. some of my fals are 14 years old, and wash and proof up like new. they dont rub or slip, and are dual purpose, in and out
By and large, you tend to get what you pay for but within that, like cars, some manufacturers put in some things as standard and some put others. For instance, I like shoulder darts because the rug needs to accommodate normal movement of the shoulder. But there are plenty of good quality rugs that don't have this. I'd write down all the features that you consider essential and decide on a budget and then just comb through the catalogues and websites.
That's a good reply BoF - ta muchly. I was mainly curious as to the longevity factor and people's experiences. There are makes of TO rug that I would not touch with a barge pole, no matter what the design features, as they just do not hold up to the wear and tear and/or are not waterproof!
Personally I am a convert to Mark Todd's and love the Horseware range (like this for people too!) I also like the Weatherbeeta rugs, but have yet to find a horse that I have owned/worked with that the combo/high neck's do not strangle as the horse grazes - though I have friends who are very happy with their WB combo's.
