Now I have been under the impression for years that 3ft6 is 1.05m

But a new show centre near me is claiming to have classes from 2ft/ 60cm up to 3ft6/ 1.10m?!?

Am I wrong is 3ft6 1.10? But when I commented on post saying 3ft6 was 1.05 I go slated by a few people saying how wrong I was and even got a few petty pms saying I obviously don't jump that level cause I don't know anything :rolleyes: lol

The metric classes have been slotted in where the old Imperial classes were, so the designations are as much psychological as practical. 1.10 fills the slot 3'6'' did - stage of training, type of horse etc - so old folks ;) use them interchangably even if they don't exactly match up.

To be fair if you are jumping at say Summerhouse BSJA the 1.05cm is definitely 3ft6" and the 1.10 is more like 3ft9"

I've yet to see a local show that builds a proper 3ft 6" course, which is why everyone gets a shock when they try BSJA!

OMG even more confused now!

I give up :p I'll go back to my old system of measurement- above my boobs it's big, below my boobs its fine! :L

That is how I measure jumps too! Works doesn't it?? :D:D:D
At least this way we won't over face ourselves when we are old and have somewhat 'sagged'! :eek:;);)

You really are tiny SC! 1.10 is between my hip and my waist!

I have just had a genius moment though, discussing walking distances, of realising the edging stones on the yard were 3' sp prefect for practising old style distance pacing!

All the best people measure 1.10m using their boobs and 90cm at the hip...

Random question, but does anywhere do imperial heights any more? Can remember the switchover being great as we convinced mum that 1.10m was 3'3 at a push so she let Al do it :D

But think how much smaller the jumps look when I set them! ;)

Heights changed over quite a while ago now, in line with FEI regs so everyone uses the same measurements now because we all use the same standards and cups.

Now I have to go and look up what the Americans use . .

Things are even stranger in Canada as the country has been completely metric for decades but hunter classes, since they're shared with the US are all still in Imperial measurements.

Just under mine is 1.10! I really am very short....:( This is my standard way of measuring fences - hip bone is 90cm, waist is 1m.

All the best people measure 1.10m using their boobs and 90cm at the hip...

This :D My waist is 105 just below boobs 110 and hips 90 :cool:

I may be a little long in the tooth, But !

36" = 1 yard.
39" = 1 mtr.

To convert from inches to centimetres....multiply number of inches by 2.54

39" x 2.54 = 99.06 cm. (call it 1 metre or 100cm !)

To convert from centimetres to inches....

100cm :- 2.54 = 39.37" (Sorry can't find the symbol for divide :confused:)

Mind you I had a quiet giggle to myself because my job involves measuring accurately, and I work with 4 men ! I wonder how they would react if I started using my boobs as a measuring aid ? ?:D:D
