I noticed my little rescue pony doing this in the field a few times last year. It then stopped & I thought no more about it.

This week it has started again. She is throwing her head up & down sometimes when eating, other times when she is just standing in the field.

I have the vet coming out soon for injections so will ask her. Has anyone else got a pony who has done this?

Wondered about allergies, ear mites?

My thought would be teeth especially if she is doing it when she is eating. When where they last checked?

My friend has a little welsh pony who throws his head up when he eats. Vet said he had never seen anything like it!

He has we think a very narrow oesophagus so he does it to help the food go down, and we call it his seal impression. Will try to dig out a camera video we took once, so you can compare. Vet's opinion was that as he was 10 and fat it wasn't worth worrying about and as he seemed to cope then leave well alone.
