Hello!
I noticed that my horse is getting some odd looking circles on his heels that are very soft, I am a little worried by it. I was wondering if this is just from playing in the field or something more serious that I need to have a local vet look at closer. Attached is a picture of his heel. I would love to hear any information you have.

Your link isn't working for me. Could he have been punctured with something? If you are worried phone the vet and describe these marks.

I looks very similar to something my boy had after a hunter trial. In his case he got his feet wet (obviously) in the water jump and one of his over reach boots rubbed away two circles of skin on his heel during the rest of the course. I just washed it in hibiscrub and applied aloe vera skin salve and it dried up within days. This was in the summer though when you could keep his feet and legs dry.

Yeah, it does look like he could have got his heel with his hind foot. I will continue to clean it and hopefully if that is the case and it will dry up soon. Thank you very much for you help!!!

I notice he isn't shod - does he wear easiboots or similar? Looks like something has rubbed the skin on his heel while its wet.

Hello
smile.gif
He is only 2 1/2 so he is barefoot for now since he is so young, he gets trimmed regularly, he is a big boy already so he has got some big feet on him! I really think he got the cuts on his heel when he was out playing in his field with the other babies, yesterday I noticed it was heeling up nicely.
